Greetings for the beginning of Summer.

GCAA moves on into plans for the rest of the year and celebrations as the Association becomes 100 years old!

We have completed the art show at the historic Depot Museum in Gulfport, hosted a teen art contest with prizes at the Traintastic Museum, presented a free pine-straw basket class at the Orange Grove library on Old Highway 49, and look forward to our next regular meeting on July 10, which is also scheduled at the library from 2:00 - 3:45pm.

Plans for July 10 are for a presentation by Member David Ford and some show-n-tell by others from a blacksmith class and the pine straw basket class as well as a view of work where a special technique is used for a 2-D appearance.

A short business meeting and fellowship with refreshments is to follow.

We appreciate the Harrison County Board of Supervisors which has given support for the previous activities and for upcoming events as we move to more Centennial celebrations.

May it be that the rain was only a small problem for most of you through the Memorial Day holiday.
It certainly made indoor activity more attractive and a few GCAA members took advantage to enjoy a special teen activity at the Traintastic Museum yesterday afternoon! An art contest showed talent in action, and the works are to be judged for first, second and third places: $50, $25 and $25 as we are sponsored by Harrison County Board of Supervisors.
GCAA members continue to have art hung at the Depot Museum in Gulfport through this week, and some have art hung at Tiffany's across the street.
The next activity is a plein air morning near Westside Community Center from 9:30 to noon, or so if weather is suitable.
Then, our regular monthly GCAA meeting is to follow on Friday, June 5 with a wood-lathe presentation by Jackie Guynn.

It's time for Updates and plans!
The plein-air experience at Gulfport Harbor on Friday was in good weather and was enjoyable also. Only three of us attended, two painters and a photographer so we hope for more to enjoy plein air by the Westside Community Center in Gulfport on Friday the 22nd.
Our show reception at the Historical Depot Museum today was well attended, enjoyable and everyone ate fairly well! The art works there are to show through the 30th and it is to be spotlighted on WLOX TV during their 10:00pm news time evening.

On Sunday, May 24, we have a teen watercolor competition for ages 13 to 17 at the Traintastic Museum. Instructors will be present to encourage and/or help.
There are to be three monetary awards, and each participant is to receive a certificate. Pre-registration is required, only a few more openings are still available.
All materials will be provided by the Gulf Coast Art Association through support from the Harrison County Board of Supervisors,
