Italian American... what does that mean? We have a unique blend of old world values melded with American structure. Many say... we have our own dialect of the Italian language.

We have created a Christmas Story for our readers. We are providing this story in both English and Italian. In reading this story we hope it reminds you of the Christmas Magic within all of us. A Rossi Christmas

In the heart of Louisiana, amidst the vast fields where they labored under the scorching sun, the Rossi family found solace in one another. Rafaele, a strong and resilient man, had brought his family from Sicily, seeking a better life, only to be met with the harsh realities of peonage. His wife, Ellena, a pillar of strength and grace, stood by his side, caring for their two young children, Angelina and Rosario.

Despite their struggles, the Rossi family never lost their spirit or their traditions. As Christmas approached, Rafaele and Ellena were determined to bring a touch of their beloved Sicily to their humble abode, even if it was far from the grand celebrations they remembered from their homeland.

December 24th, 1889

The Rossi family’s tiny cabin was filled with the aroma of simple yet comforting dishes. Ellena, with Angelina tugging at her skirts and little Rosario clinging to her legs, prepared a modest feast from the sparse provisions they had. There were no lavish meats or abundant sweets, but Ellena managed to bake a small loaf of bread and simmer a pot of minestrone soup, filling the room with warmth.

Rafaele, despite his tired bones from a long day in the fields, found a small pine branch and brought it into their home. He placed it in a corner of their cabin and decorated it with bits of colored paper and dried fruits, creating a makeshift Christmas tree. The children’s eyes sparkled with delight as they watched their father’s loving efforts to bring joy to their home.

That evening, as the sun set and the chill of the night crept in, the Rossi family gathered around their simple meal. They held hands and Rafaele said a prayer, giving thanks for their blessings, no matter how small. The light from a single candle flickered on their faces, casting a glow of hope and love.

Ellena sang a sweet Sicilian lullaby to soothe the children, her voice a beacon of comfort in their new world. Rafaele shared stories of their homeland, speaking of the beauty and richness of Sicily, instilling a sense of pride and connection in Angelina and Rosario.

After their humble meal, Rafaele produced a small gift for each child—a hand-carved wooden toy for Rosario and a delicate handkerchief for Angelina, stitched with love by Ellena’s own hands. The children's laughter and joy filled the cabin, a precious sound that warmed the hearts of their parents.

As the family settled in for the night, huddled together for warmth, Rafaele and Ellena looked at each other with a deep sense of accomplishment. Despite the hardships they faced, they had managed to bring the spirit of Christmas to their little home in Louisiana. Their love for each other and their resilience would see them through any challenge, and they knew that brighter days lay ahead.

The Rossi family’s first Christmas in Louisiana, though simple, was a testament to their enduring spirit and the power of love and tradition. It was a reminder that even in the hardest of times, the heart of Christmas could still beat strong, bringing joy and hope to those who believed.
