On Sept. 2, 1945, Japan formally surrendered aboard the USS Missouri, bringing World War II to an end.

As we mark the 81st anniversary of V-J Day, we remember the millions who served and sacrificed, honor those who never came home, and reflect on the tremendous human cost of the war.

May the courage and sacrifice of those who served never be forgotten.

Join us on Friday, Sept. 11 at 8:30am as we gather in remembrance, reflection, and unity for the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001.

As our nation also marks its 250th anniversary, we pause to remember the lives lost, honor the courage of those who responded, and reflect on the resilience and unity that carried our country through one of its darkest days.

The Service of Remembrance will include personal reflections from Grosse Pointe Farms Mayor John Gillooly and remarks from Fr. Andrew Van Culin of Christ Church Grosse Pointe, along with moments of silence honoring all those whose lives were forever changed by September 11. Musical performances will be provided by Kisma Jordan and Gary Johnson, JC Whitelaw, and Niko Eklund.
