Grosse Pointe Theatre (GPT) was founded in 1947 and has been entertaining the Metro Detroit area with live theatre for 74 seasons. Grosse Pointe Theatre’s seasons include 5 Main Stage productions, one Purdon Studio Theatre black box contemporary production and two Youth on Stage shows each season. It’s almost that wonderful time of year when our Youth On Stage classes go live! 🎉

On Monday, August 31st our YOS classes open up on the website, including one of our fan favorites - the Tech Theatre Class! This is for ages 10-14, and teaches the fundamentals of working behind-the-scenes. Students in this class will have the opportunity to work tech on the next YOS show: Disney’s The Descendants.

Other classes will be opening up as well, including musical theatre, improv, and creative dramatics.

Congratulations to our incredible cast, and a huge thank you to everyone who came out to audition! We can’t wait to get to work bringing Auradon and the Isle of the Lost to life.

Dolly Parton brought light wherever she went. Through her music, her humor, her generosity, and her unmistakable spirit, she reminded us of the power of kindness, joy, and a little bit of sparkle.

A few years ago, GPT had the privilege of bringing 9 to 5: The Musical to our stage, sharing in a small piece of the funny, bold, hopeful world Dolly created.

Her impact reached far beyond the stage. Her life was a light in a sometimes dark world, and we are grateful it shone so brightly for so long.

We’re thrilled to introduce the cast of Diana Son’s Stop Kiss, coming to Grosse Pointe Theatre this October!

Thank you to everyone who came out to audition and shared their time and talent with us. We can’t wait to see this incredible cast bring this funny, tender, and deeply moving story to life.

The Take Ten Playwriting Workshop begins this weekend.

Grosse Pointe Theatre is once again offering a playwriting workshop. This workshop is designed to help prepare attendees to submit a ten-minute play for consideration for Grosse Pointe Theatre’s 14th Annual Take Ten Play Festival in May 2027. The theme for this year is Meet Me in the Park and the deadline for entry is October 31, 2026.

New this year, the first session on August 22 is geared toward beginning playwrights and will focus on the basics of playwriting. Even so, everyone registered for the workshop series is welcome to attend.

Workshop dates:
Saturday, August 22, 2026. 9:30 am to 11:30 am (especially for beginning playwrights, but all are welcome to attend)
Saturday, September 12. 9:30 am to 12 pm
Saturday, October 3, 2026. 9:30 am to 12 pm
Saturday, October 24, 2026. 9:30 am to 12:30 pm
