The Eunice Williams Bridge on the Green River has a ghost story. Eunice Williams, wife of the Rev. John Williams, was captured in the raid on Deerfield February 29, 1704. Many were killed by a combined force of French and Native allies (Abenaki, Mohawk, Pocumtuck, and Huron among them), and 112 survivors were taken on a 300 mile march to New France. Mrs. Williams had recently given birth to daughter Jerusha, who along with her brother John were murdered in the attack; Eunice Williams, in no shape to go on, fell while fording the river and was killed by a tomahawk, and it's said that her spirit remains on the riverbank. Supposedly if you drive into the covered bridge on a clear moonlit night and honk your horn, you may see her apparition and hear her cries. Swimmers have reported seeing her reflection in the water.
