🍂🎃 The 2026 Greene County Hay Bale Trail is here! 🎃🍂

The 2026 Hay Bale Trail, presented by Keep Greene Beautiful, is back for its second year with 32 stops throughout Greene County and beyond. From farms and local businesses to nonprofits, schools, and community members, our participants have transformed hay bales into fun, creative fall displays for everyone to enjoy.

📍 The trail begins at the Greene County Partnership, 115 Academy Street, where you can start your journey through the other 31 stops.

🍁 The displays will be on view October 13 through November 13.

The Nolichucky Restoration Project is looking for volunteers for their river cleanup on Saturday, Oct. 10.

Another cleanup of 3 ½ mile class 1 section of Nolichucky River between Kinser Bridge and private property below Greeneville Water Department will be held October 10 from 9:30 to 2:00.

Our biggest need is volunteers with boats to transport tires and other debris the 1.2 miles downstream to the private property where Greene County Solid Waste will place a hopper for proper disposal of debris removed from the river. During our September cleanup on this section, we removed 100 tires, metal roofing and antique truck parts, and staged another 25 tires that we could not fit in on our boats.

Rafts, fishing kayaks, duckies, canoes, SUPs, and jon boats have worked great on our past cleanups. On one cleanup we had a jet drive boat that was a lot of help moving debris, but at current water level and distance from power boat launch point, paddle craft will work the best.

♻️ A few reminders:
• Convenience Centers accept household trash and a variety of recyclable materials.
• Many centers also accept items such as cardboard, plastics, glass, aluminum cans, batteries, metal, used motor oil, electronics and limited used tires.
• Brush, tree limbs and lumber are NOT accepted at the Convenience Centers.
• Greene County has also resumed textile recycling at its Convenience Centers, with Romeo being the exception because of limited space.

🌎🌱 What a day at 5th Grade Conservation Camp! 🌱🌎

Rain tried to change our plans on Tuesday, September 22, but it didn't stop us from having a wonderful day of learning at Hardin Park!

Ten 5th grade classes joined us for our annual 5th Grade Conservation Camp, where students rotated through hands-on stations and learned about everything from archaeology and wildlife to water conservation, recycling, habitats, wildfire safety, agriculture and more.

We are so proud of all of the students who participated and put what they were learning into action. A little rain couldn't keep these future conservationists from having a great day! 🌿

A huge thank you to our presenters, teachers and community partners who helped make this year's Conservation Camp such a success. We are grateful for everyone who invested their time and knowledge in these students!
