The Greeneville Arts Council has announced the opening of an exciting new exhibition by two well-known regional artists in the Mason House Gallery in The General Morgan Inn. Entitled “Force of Nature—Paintings, Jewelry and Photography,” the exhibition will open on September 1 and run through September 30, 2026

The gallery will host a special “Meet the Artists” reception on September 1, 5-7pm. Anyone who attends the opening reception will be able to take 10% off the price of any pieces they choose to acquire. Both artists—Amy Benedict of Asheville, NC and Terri Haught —will be available to discuss the works of art. Live music will be provided.

Terri Haught, a Fine Arts graduate and former graphic designer, says she has been an artist for “as long as she can remember”. She discovered her love of jewelry while designing promotional pieces for a jewelry trade show. She is inspired by symmetry which is in all of nature and echoed in the faceting of gemstones. Combining complementary colors and crafting designs resulting in an unexpected one-of-a-kind piece.

Amy is a musician, dancer and oil painter drawing inspiration from the vibrancy and awe of nature as well as from the feeling from her favorite culinary flavors and memories of sharing a meal with friends and family. Amy currently has work displayed in Asheville as well as Robins on Roan in Johnson City TN.

The Greeneville Arts Council and the General Morgan Inn are pleased to announce the artwork of Ferris Jones from August 1-30, 2026.

Ferris E. Jones, Ph.D., is an artist and poet living in Greeneville, Tennessee. Ferris and his wife Tina of almost thirty years have called Greeneville their home since October of 2025. It took only one trip to the south for them to fall in love with the people and know this was the place they wanted to retire.

Ferris’s artwork will be featured at the Mason House Gallery within the General Morgan Inn the entire month of August. His artwork has also appeared in print editions such as Ignatian Literary Magazine, The Good Life Review, and Oyster River Pages. Ferris has always found old buildings, odd rooms, and the outdoors as his favorite subjects for his art pieces. It is the oddities he experiences that drive his desire to create art.

The choice of the medium of mixed media allows Ferris to draw upon the various types of visual art and create layers over layers, bending different textures and colors within his art. He began his journey as an artist only a few years ago as he began to experiment with different forms of poetry and began to combine poetry with art. This led him to take art seriously in its own right and has been both an artist and poet separately since.

Ferris is the author of twelve collections of poetry published by Cyberwit Press. His poetry has also appeared in several magazines such as Se La Vie Magazine, Write on Magazine, and Outlaw Poetry.

The Greeneville Arts Council was honored and excited to participate in Greeneville's Juneteenth celebration on Saturday, June 20th, presented by the George Clem Multicultural Alliance. Participants colored Juneteenth crowns and created tea lights from colorful tissue and Mod Podge. We look forward to this event every year, and we love sharing and making art with our community.

The Greeneville Arts Council is pleased to present the artwork of Sara Bell for the month of July, 2026 at the Mason House Gallery in The General Morgan Inn. The show will feature her watercolor
paintings from several collections, and focus on her latest works, Green Girl Weaving.

Green Girl Weaving is a joyful collaboration between poet Mary Jo Amani and artist Sara Elizabeth Bell, begun after Mary Jo chanced upon Sara’s work exhibited at a local coffee shop, Filo’s, in Asheville, North Carolina in 2025. The collaboration has been celebratory with Sara’s beautiful and whimsical illustrations inspired by the poems Mary Jo wrote following the death of her son, and with some poems written in response to Sara’s previous work which embodied green girl aesthetics as well—both the art and the poems hinting at the immanence, solace, and eternal essence of nature and our connection with it.

Sara Bell has always drawn. As a child, her mother would say, “Go to your room and DRAW something!” when Sara needed a break. She later earned her BFA from the Maryland Institute, College of Art and moved to Northern California.

She has two children.

Sara lives in Western North Carolina and embodies the John Muir quote, “And into the forest I go to lose my mind and find my soul.” She ventures off into the mountains and off the beaten path to find beautiful, peaceful places to sit and draw.

Most recently Sara has been working in a variety of water based mediums to create images combining the beauty of Western North Carolina with her illustrative roots often using the vehicle of trees to express concepts about connection. Sara hopes you find peace and beauty when viewing her work.

A big “Thank you!” to Eliza Pittman of Girl Scouts Troop 1090 and Emma Wilson of Girl Scouts Troop 464 for their help cleaning, sanding, and painting the stands we use in the Mason House Gallery at the The General Morgan Inn!

These stands are used to display art in our monthly artist exhibitions. They needed refurbishing, and Eliza and Emma were up to the task!

Ronnie Luttrell is the featured artist at the Mason House Gallery inside of the General Morgan Inn for the month of June. The exhibit will be available to view through the month of June. A meet-the-artist opening will be held in the gallery on Thursday, June 4th, from 5-7:00. The public is invited to this free event.

Ronnie writes:

"I am a Greene County native, self taught artist painting in oils, or acrylics. Although many subjects appeal to me, l primarily portray western themes, horses, cows, and landscapes. I have been inspired by the Old Masters, tonalist, and luminist painters, and hopefully my works represent these styles. I get great satisfaction in seeing the emotions of those viewing my work. I trust that my work reflects my enjoyment of this God-given talent, and conveys my personal connection to the world around me."

Greeneville High School is proud to announce its 2026 Senior Art Show, a celebration of creativity and achievement featuring outstanding work by this year’s graduating seniors. The exhibition, sponsored by the Greeneville Arts Council, will be on display throughout the month of May at the Mason House Gallery, located inside the historic General Morgan Inn in downtown Greeneville.

The show highlights a diverse range of two-dimensional and three dimensional artwork, including drawings, paintings, and ceramic pieces. Each work represents the culmination of students’ artistic growth and dedication during their high school careers.

Community members are invited to attend a special Meet & Greet event on Tuesday, May 5, from 5:00–7:00 PM. This informal gathering offers guests the opportunity to view the artwork, connect with the student artists, and learn more about their creative processes and inspirations.

Some pieces in the exhibition may be available for purchase, with sales determined individually by the student artists.

This annual exhibition not only showcases the talent of Greeneville High School seniors but also serves as a meaningful sendoff as they prepare to pursue future academic and creative endeavors. The public is encouraged to visit the gallery throughout May to support these emerging artists and experience the vibrant work on display.

Every year, the Greeneville Arts Council coordinates this exhibition of art from Greeneville City and Greene County elementary and middle schools. This year’s show is in the Niswonger Commons

Selected student artists receive a certificate of merit and a gift card for their very own art supplies. Each participating school receives a grant to their art department.
