Good morning...many of our visitors are probably unaware of the historic flood 50 year we experienced here in northern Michigan, especially in our watershed of the Au Sable.
The hatchery experienced water basically "everywhere" ..our Winter and Spring have been extremely tough at the hatchery and in our area in general.
Many of our native flowers and flowering trees are way behind in showing us their beauty! But it will come.
The East branch of the Au Sable is continuously moving the dark sediment thru the river system, which collects at the hatchery and even after sweeping our raceways with the fish, its dark again. It's a learning process and we are at the mercy of Nature..she will clear things up in due time.
Folks are catching fish in the blue gill pond, but again notice the lack of clarity in our pond. Our bubbler is working to provide oxygen but the sediment will take time to settle. We then will once again be able to see the various species of turtles and fish.
Even with all of this, the hatchery is alive. Our resident Canada Goose is on her nest, we have our Mallard ducks supervising your visit! Listen to the birds, we have many passing thru and setting up residence. Look for our turtles and frogs. Or just enjoy peaceful picnic by the water.
We thank everyone who visits and we could not do this without all your support!
