This month’s offering supports the United Methodist Community House (UMCH). Since 1902, the UMCH has been meeting the needs of and offering opportunities to children, youth, adults, seniors, and families in the heart of Grand Rapids, to help them increase their opportunities to succeed.

A Taste of Summer | If you’re looking for some glorious downtime and a relaxed environment where you can deepen your connection with your church family, consider attending All-Church Camp next August in Pentwater.

Lake Michigan beachfront, sandcastles, jalapeno pancakes and smoked brisket are always on the menu. This year, thanks to our young adult crew, a new tradition was added.

We all know and love s’mores around the campfire. Now wrap your head around the idea of savory s’mores. You heard me right! Babybel gouda cheese wrapped in prosciutto, melted in the flames and placed on Triscuits smothered in pepper jelly. Heaven on a stick! Pastor's Message | Greetings in the name of Christ, As many of you know September has been a busy month for me, between putting on the miles for a half marathon (my first in 9 years), celebrating a milestone at my home church for the 100th anniversary of their sanctuary, and logging the flight miles for a long-planned trip with some of our members. I appreciate all of your well wishes and prayers of support.

First Church has several milestones that we have marked every year with the coming of Fall and resuming of our regular schedules. We have had our homecoming celebration, our choir is back, and this month we will observe World Communion Sunday and begin our stewardship campaign Building Faith UP.

We will also be hosting The Methodist Connection and Interfaith Thanksgiving service in November, and we are back to our concert schedule. We also have a few new things happening that you will read about as well.

Reflecting on all this I want to share a portion of a devotional I wrote shortly after my race, which is a reminder for all of us as we move back into this season.
