We provide meaningful employment and workforce development training for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. ✨ 2026 - Best Coffee Shop, Best Non-Profit, & Best Barista ✨ Unemployment is at a record low, but that doesn’t mean all who want work can find meaningful employment. For those with mental or physical disabilities, the challenge of finding a job that meets their needs and honors their gifts is a burden not lifted by a good economy. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that will act as an advocate for, and provide meaningful employment and job skills to, people with special needs. The first official program offered by BErista Inc. will be Kenzie’s BE Cafe! Named after the organizer’s niece Makenzie Aney, Kenzie’s BE Cafe will be the 4th café open with the Brody’s BE Cafe mission:
To provide a safe and enjoyable work environment for individuals with intellectual and developmental delays along with other special needs. To create a place of acceptance for all people in the community; a place to receive, and give back. Brody’s be Café [Kenzie’s BE Cafe] will provide an opportunity for people with, and without special needs, to work together. This cafe will provide a place where everyone can come together to feel purpose, importance, and to realize that we aren’t all that different on the inside. Kenzie’s will operate out of the Crescent Theater building located at 1103 Washington Ave., Grand Haven, MI 49417. Like the individuals we will serve, this organization needs community support to make this opportunity a success. The capital necessary for the first year of operations will build a program that provides connection and confidence for its team members… not to mention a great cup of coffee for its patrons. Donations start at $50, with donation levels up to $10,000+. Your meaningful contribution will make a lasting impact on our community and the individuals that we will serve. Thank you in advance for your support! Your BErista, Inc. Board Members

💙💛 During Down Syndrome Awareness Month, we want to talk about something simple but important: the words we use matter.

The way we talk about people with Down syndrome can either reinforce stereotypes or help build a more inclusive community. That’s why it’s important to use language that is respectful and recognizes each person as an individual.

Here are a few simple things to keep in mind:
💛 Say “person with Down syndrome,” not “Down syndrome person.”
💙 Say someone “has Down syndrome,” not that they “suffer from” it.
💛 Use words that recognize a person’s abilities, strengths, and individuality rather than defining them by a diagnosis.
💙 Avoid outdated or hurtful language that can be disrespectful to people with disabilities.

These small changes help remind us that a diagnosis does not define an entire person. People with Down syndrome have their own personalities, interests, talents, dreams, and goals, just like everyone else.

Advocacy starts with awareness, and awareness starts with a willingness to learn. By being thoughtful about the words we use, we can help create a community where people with Down syndrome are respected, valued, and included for who they are.

Let's keep learning and advocating together, this month and every month! 💙💛

As we approach our fourth anniversary, we’ve been reflecting on what makes Kenzie’s so special and why our mission matters so much. 💙

To many who walk through our doors, Kenzie’s might look just like any other coffee shop. The grinder is humming, the pastries are ready, seasonal drinks are on the menu, and there’s a warm, welcoming place to sit and enjoy your coffee. And we love all of that, but what makes Kenzie’s different is the mission that fuels everything we do!

We really are so much more than a coffee shop.

We are a place where someone gets their first opportunity to enter the workforce. A place where someone gets a fresh start, with people walking alongside them, providing support, encouragement, and opportunities to grow. A place where someone can discover skills they may not have had the opportunity to show before. A place where hard work is recognized, independence is encouraged, confidence grows, and people have the opportunity to find purpose through meaningful employment.

The need for opportunities like these is significant. Approximately 75% of working-age individuals with disabilities are not actively participating in the labor force. Behind that statistic are people with talents, goals, and so much to contribute who deserve the opportunity to work, grow, and be part of their communities.

This is why we do what we do. We believe inclusive employment is good for everyone. When people are given the opportunity to contribute, everyone benefits. Workplaces become stronger, communities become more inclusive, and people have the chance to discover just how much they are capable of.

At Kenzie’s, we choose to put people above profit. And that means we cannot do what we do by simply selling coffee. Every drink we serve helps support something bigger. Every customer who walks through our doors becomes part of a mission that extends far beyond the cup in their hands.

As we celebrate four years of Kenzie’s, we invite you to be part of what comes next. Throughout our anniversary month, your support can go even further through our $20,000 matching gift opportunity! Your generosity helps us continue creating meaningful employment opportunities, building independence, and walking alongside our baristas as they learn and grow.

Thank you for believing in our mission, showing up for our baristas, and helping us prove that we are so much more than a coffee shop. We couldn’t do this without you. 💙💛

A few weeks ago, some of our baristas had the opportunity to participate in the fashion show at Chow Down Centertown! 💃 Julia and Laura walked the runway for the second year, and Becca joined in for her very first time!

We love this fun event and are so grateful for opportunities like these to celebrate our amazing baristas and let them shine in new ways. Thank you for including us! We had the best time cheering them on! 💙
