What an incredible way to close out the 2026 Grand Haven Free Fridays season! 🎶❤️

Tonight, Jess & Jesse opened the evening with a wonderful performance, followed by Full Cord, who absolutely brought their A-game and gave us a fantastic final show of the summer.

As we look back over the season, we’re incredibly proud of what we’ve been able to do through the Ric Van Weelden Music Fund. Over the past six Friday concerts and five Thursday concerts, we gave away 11 ukuleles and 6 acoustic guitars to young people in our community. That’s 17 instruments — and hopefully 17 new musical journeys beginning. 🎸🎵

None of this happens without the generosity of our family, friends, supporters, and everyone who has donated to the Ric Van Weelden Music Fund. We are so grateful for each of you who continues to believe in what we are building.

Our summer concerts may be over, but we’re not finished. Be on the lookout for more events coming this fall!

Many years ago, Dave Palmer and Ric VanWeelden started the original Walk the Beat in Grand Haven. Their vision was simple but powerful: bring music into the heart of the community and make it accessible to everyone.

That vision continued to grow. Walk the Beat expanded to Albion through the leadership of Cliff Harris. After Ric’s passing, Dave Palmer the Ric VanWeelden Music Fund helped raise funds to support the start of Walk the Beat in Whitehall.

Seeing these events flourish reminds me that Ric would be incredibly proud. He believed that music is everywhere, for everyone, and that belief lives on through every musician who performs, every volunteer who gives their time, and every child whose life is changed by receiving an instrument or music lessons.

This summer, I encourage you to attend Walk the Beat—whether in Grand Haven, Albion, or Whitehall. Come enjoy outstanding local musicians, support the organizations that make these events possible, and celebrate the power of live music.

While you’re there, shop at the local stores, enjoy a meal at a neighborhood restaurant, and experience the unique spirit of each community.

Together, we’re proving that music truly is everywhere… and for everyone. ❤️🎶

Family and friends,

Please join us this Sunday, April 12, from 2–5 PM at Temple Lounge as we continue raising funds to support music in our community, uplift Michigan artists, and provide instruments and opportunities for kids.

Ric’s son, Dylan VanWeelden, along with Elijah Russ, has poured so much time and heart into creating this video. After watching the final edit, I can honestly say it moved me to tears. Seeing Ric’s Beatles guitar and so many of our Flying V’s come together… my heart is truly full.

This Sunday will also be our very first acoustic jam—so bring an instrument if you’d like and be part of something special.
