Your 2026 END Backyard Ultra Champion,
Andy Hayner 🏆
After completing ~79.5 miles and outlasting a VERY talented group of competitors, he stepped back onto the Cheyenne National Grasslands trail to complete his 20th and final lap for the victory—smokin’ off 4.08 miles in 30 minutes flat. (7:20/mile) for his winning total of ~83 miles. Great performance, Andy,
and the amazing field of runners that competed in the 2026 END BACKYARD!

(Post was edited as I had taken total finishing yards from a board photo before the race had ended.🙄)

Hope all the Wilderfolk have recovered! Here are the results. Race start was 7am, all finish times of each section are noted and a total race time at the END. That’s over 230 total hours of pure joy in and around the Pembina Gorge!

This year, thanks to our good friends Scott (a 5-time Wilderman!) and Stacy Jensen (a one-of-a-kind volunteer and friEND) for both the idea and the cash, we introduced a new tradition: the Spirit of the Wilderman Award. This award recognizes athletes who truly embody the heart, grit, and perseverance that define the Wilderman.

Congratulations to our inaugural recipients, Hadassah Walberg of Aberdeen, SD, and Max Birk of Bozeman, MT!

At just 20 years old, Haddie chose the Wilderman as her first-ever triathlon—and went on to win the women's Half-Wilderman race. Throughout the day, she embraced every challenge with an infectious smile, positive attitude, and a genuine love for the whole experience, even the chocolate chip muffin.

Max's day looked over when he reached Transition 2 completely exhausted (like many others). Instead of quitting, he made the decision to keep going—one aid station at a time. His determination and resilience (...spirit) carried him all the way to the finish line.

Both Haddie and Max crossed the finish line in the early hours of Sunday morning, proving that the Wilderman isn't just about speed—it's about heart, perseverance, and refusing to give up.

Congratulations to all participants in ENDSURE Saturday. It was awesome to see so many strong runners succeed in their events. Here’s hoping to see you all again next year! Your shirts will be mailed to you soon.

ENDRACING would like to send a BIG thank you to the “behind the scenes” team of Tim Bauer, Evan Smith, Cory Enger and Maggie Ridl & family for their parts in making this event happen. Fantastic volunteers!
