The Exchange Club's Family Center of the Central Piedmont We are a non-profit child abuse prevention and treatment agency located in Graham, NC and working in Orange County, Alamance and a few others around us!

We believe that every child deserves a safe and healthy start to their journey of life. We know that this is a realistic goal when families and the communities that they live in are built up and strengthened. This takes a collaborative effort from public, private, and government entities. We also believe it is the responsibility of both the individual and the collective to ensure the welfare of ou

r future, our children. Multiple adverse childhood experiences increases health problems, mental health issues, and high risk behaviors (www.cdc.gov/ace/index.htm). Child Abuse & Neglect costs the nation $220 million every day (Prevent Child Abuse, Cost Data, 2012). A shocking cost for an issue that is 100% preventable. Therefore programming at our agency is founded on a philosophy that is based on a psychosocial approach that considers both the psychological development of individuals and the effects of their social environment upon their behavior. Child abuse is viewed as the result of a stressful environment interacting with an individual who is ill-equipped to effectively parent or discipline his/her child. The purposeful injection of programming to strengthen families and increase the protective factors while decreasing risk factors will break the generational cycle of child abuse and neglect. Involving the community through awareness and educational campaigns as well as educational programming will increase the community protective factors and make safe environments for children in the community.
