👋👋Meet Nancy Bontrager, Staff Accountant at Lacasa.

Nancy grew up in Goshen, so the neighborhoods where Lacasa works are familiar to her. She remembers seeing older homes and properties in her neighborhood that needed attention. She watched what happens when those same places are invested in and revitalized.

“I love being able to use my skillset to support a mission that empowers individuals and invests in neighborhoods that others might overlook.”

As Staff Accountant, much of Nancy’s work happens behind the scenes, helping support the housing, programs, and neighborhood investments happening throughout our community.

She also appreciates the people she gets to do that work with.

“It is lovely working with other people who are all geared toward the same mission, we have fun, but we know the importance of our work as well.”

Congratulations to Bradley! 🎉🎉🎉

We have another HUD Certified Housing Counselor at Lacasa! We are so proud of Bradley for passing the HUD Certified Housing Counselor exam and adding even more value to our gifted team of housing counselors.

HUD certification matters because our clients are making some pretty big decisions—buying a home, working through housing challenges, understanding their options—and they deserve guidance from counselors who have demonstrated knowledge across a broad range of housing and financial topics.

It’s also an important credential for Lacasa, allowing us to provide HUD-approved housing counseling and maintain the standards required of a HUD-approved agency.

Congratulations, Bradley! That is not an easy exam, and we’re glad to have another certified counselor on the team.

We had a great Investing 101 class last night with instructor Karl Birky and guest speaker Chad Campbell, Financial Planner with Everence Financial.

Our participants came in with a wide range of investing knowledge and experience, but everyone had one thing in common: they were there to learn something new. One participant even made sure before leaving to ask how they could get started with a retirement account based on their own situation. The only thing standing in the way of taking action right then and there? Financial institutions aren't open at 8pm!

We love seeing people leave class not only with new knowledge, but excited to put it to work. Thank you to Karl and Chad for sharing your time and expertise with us!

Are you in the market to buy a new home❓🏠

Along with our affordable rental developments, Lacasa currently has four single-family homes in the works—two in Goshen and two in Elkhart.

🏠323 W. Wilden Avenue, Goshen — New Build | 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms
🏠816 Madison Street, Elkhart — New Build | 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms
🏠340 W. Hubbard Street, Elkhart — Rehab | 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom

The two new builds are funded through IHCDA's HOME program and will create homeownership opportunities for households at or below 80% of Area Median Income.

The two rehabs are existing homes being given some attention before they're ready for their next owners.

And POOF...a house appeared! 🏠

It's pretty satisfying to watch a Modway home being set on one of our properties. The process is relatively quick and smooth, and in a matter of hours, a site that looked very different this morning now has a house on it.

Today it happened at 323 W. Wilden Avenue in Goshen, where we're building a new 3-bedroom, 2-bath home.

The process even drew a few spectators from Lacasa. Our Accounting team took a little field trip to Wilden to watch the house arrive and be set into place. After spending so much time tracking the dollars behind our housing projects, it's probably nice to occasionally see those numbers turn into an actual house!

There's still plenty of work ahead before Wilden is ready for its future homeowner, but today was a pretty big—and very visible—step forward.

A week's worth of work was completed in three hours at Lakeview Drive.

🎩🐰 Was it magic❓ Not quite.

It was 22 Goshen College Residence Life students and staff showing up ready to work.

In just three hours, the group:

✅ Mowed and weeded
✅ Cleaned the retaining pond
✅ Removed acres of temporary sprinkler systems
✅ Filled holes throughout the property
✅ Cleaned an apartment

Lakeview Drive is a large property, and keeping up with everything that needs attention takes time. Having 22 extra sets of hands meant knocking out in one morning what could have taken our staff the better part of a week.

That's some serious volunteer power.

Thank you to the Goshen College Residence Life students and staff for spending the morning with us—and for leaving Lakeview Drive with a much shorter to-do list than when you arrived!
