Why are we so passionate about language groups at FinisTerre? We believe that language is one of the greatest human barriers to the gospel—starting at the Tower of Babel in Genesis 11.

Meet the Donckels Family!

Luke and Christa are sent out of Country Oaks Baptist Church in Tehachapi, California.

Currently, their team in PNG is working on people group survey research, looking for a language group to serve that does not currently have an existing healthy church or a language that is enveloped by one of PNG’s national languages.

Additionally, Christa is expecting a baby girl this fall and the family will be going on medical leave any day now.

Please cover them in prayer:
* Pray for Luke and teammate Elijah as they take trips to two separate language groups for further research
* Pray that the Lord would make it clear where He is leading this team
* Pray for their family as they go on medical furlough
* Pray for a safe arrival for baby girl and for a smooth recovery for Christa
* Pray for Luke and Christa’s marriage amid all the changes and transitions, and for wisdom as they lead their children

Your giving makes a Kingdom impact.

At FinisTerre, we believe that national pastors in churches in strategic coastal towns/cities must train and pastorally qualify their OWN men to reach unreached language groups. Most of the churches in these cities, however, are weak in the gospel. Therefore, churches must first be planted!

Your gift to FinisTerre helps us not only maintain our current position and infrastructure in Madang, but will help us (Lord willing) expand into another larger coastal city, Lae, in the coming years.

This will strengthen our ability to support coastal church missions as well as the unreached language group missions.

We believe that missionaries should be biblically and pastorally trained before they are qualified to go and train someone else—and that this best happens within the local church. This is why we partner with XL Ministries.

XL provides resources and internships to support local churches as they train ministry leaders, pastors, and missionaries. They have designed internships that occur in the local church, while providing ongoing support, to train men to be pastors and youth pastors, and men and women to be missionaries. This removes the burden of trying to figure out a way to fulfill this task from the church, while allowing the church leadership to be the ones training and guiding and providing feedback to the interns.

Oftentimes, when we think of missionary life, we fail to remember that this is real life. We might picture endless hours of prayer or Bible reading, conversations that only end in gospel presentations, etc. But just like you and me, missionaries have laundry. They have family time. They need rest. So what does the life of a missionary actually look like? For some of them, it looks like this:�
Monday - Friday: Schoolwork, cooking, cleaning, kids activities, working on Bible translation and preparing the weekly sermon in the village’s local language.

Saturday: Teaching literacy/reading, meeting with male leaders of the village to discuss God’s Word, leadership, and ministry

Sunday: Teaching/preaching to the local villagers in their language
