This is an extremely contentious issue - in the instance of illegal abortion, is the abortionist held responsible or the abortionist and the mother seeking an abortion? If it's illegal because abortion is the intentional ending of an unborn life (i.e. murder) then it certainly follows logically that the mother would also be responsible since she requested and paid the abortionist. And what about others who are also responsible, wholly or in part? Coercion is a very sad reality, from the partner to parents and other family, to employers to medical professionals the mother relies on to inform her, etc.
There are two things supporters of abortion will not acknowledge: 1) many women who have experienced abortion would gladly take a jail sentence over the torturous prison of regret that invades their peace and joy every day, their esteem, their ability to maintain relationships, their relationship with othe children; 2) illegal abortion WILL stop most abortions.
Republican lawmakers in Tennessee have introduced a bill that would allow the death penalty for women who have abortions.
House Bill 570, sponsored by Rep. Jody Barrett and Sen. Mark Pody, would classify abortion as “homicide of her own unborn child.”
Tennessee already has one of the strictest abortion bans in the country under the Human Life Protection Act, which prohibits abortion from fertilization with no exceptions for r**e or in**st.
