🧸💙 Sometimes, comfort comes in the form of a teddy bear.

As we continue taking you beyond the Boutique and sharing the programs your support helps make possible, we’re highlighting a program that holds a very special place in the history of Assistance League of Fresno.

🧸 OPERATION BEAR HUG

Established in 1988, Operation Bear Hug was the very first program of Assistance League of Fresno.

For nearly four decades, Operation Bear Hug has provided new, certified-safe teddy bears to local emergency response agencies and community organizations throughout Fresno and Clovis.

These bears are distributed to local agencies, including the Fresno Police Department, Clovis Police Department, Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, and other community partners, where they can provide comfort to children and others in times of crisis.

During times of crisis, something as simple as a teddy bear can provide a sense of comfort, security, and reassurance when it’s needed most. ❤️

This past year alone, our members individually packaged and distributed more than 2,500 new bears to 14 recipient organizations throughout Fresno and Clovis.

And since Operation Bear Hug began?

🧸 More than 35,000 bears have been distributed.

That’s more than 35,000 opportunities to provide a little comfort during a time of need.

Funding from donations and our Assistance League of Fresno Thrift Boutique helps make Operation Bear Hug possible—which means when you shop with us, donate to us, or support our Boutique, you become part of this story too.

To our shoppers, donors, volunteers, community partners, and the entire Fresno community—thank you for helping us continue a tradition of caring that began nearly 40 years ago. 💙❤️

🛍️💙 There’s more behind your favorite thrift-store find than you may realize.

You may know us for our unique finds, vintage treasures, and welcoming Thrift Boutique—but did you know that when you shop with us, you’re also helping support our community?

Assistance League of Fresno is a nonprofit organization with six programs serving our community, and our Thrift Boutique is the major source of funding for these programs.

That means the treasures you take home help make something much bigger possible. 💙

Over the coming weeks, we want to take you beyond the Boutique and introduce you to the programs your continued support helps fund.

We’re beginning with our signature and largest program:

🔔💙 OPERATION SCHOOL BELL

During the 2025–2026 fiscal year, Operation School Bell served more than 10,000 students and invested more than $225,000 in our community.

👕 Clothing — $175,000
More than 6,000 students received school clothing.

🎒 Supplies — $10,000
Backpacks and materials were provided for Super Saturday, along with books for Read Across America.

📚 Literacy & Books — $20,000
Eight schools received new library books, along with inspirational books for high school girls.

🧴 Hygiene & Personal Care — $8,000
Hygiene products were provided to middle and high schools.

🍎 Meals & Food Assistance — $12,000
Helped provide more than 2,800 meals at Fresno Mission, along with food for local food pantries.

💙 So the next time you find that perfect treasure at our Boutique, know that your purchase has a purpose.

To our shoppers, donors, volunteers, and the entire Fresno community—thank you. Your continued support helps provide the funding that makes programs like Operation School Bell possible.

🛍️💙 Great finds. Greater purpose.
