Just love Carson City coins and it’s a childish thrill every time I get a new one. My newest adopted example, an 1991- CC Eagle coin. This one is the common one of the eagles minted at the Carson City Mint in the 1890s with a total minted of 103,732. The runner up from there would be the 1892 with a mintage total of 40,000. Quite a drop from ‘91’ and the remaining to years are much less with 17,500 in 1890 and 14,000 in 1893.

Last minute detail department. A monthly meeting is scheduled for tomorrow, March 17, 2026. Time kind of slipped through my fingers and before I knew it, we're at the eve of the meeting night.
Anyway, tomorrow night, 3/17/2026, 7:00 PM at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1084 W. Bullard just west of Palm in the north side of Bullard.
Tomorrow night's speaker will be Scott Eddy, the club's official elongated coin aficionado and it is believed that he will be speaking and educating us on the wonders of elongated coin collection, a truly interesting branch of collecting that yields many possible areas of unique collecting. Come out tomorrow and learn about some of those possibilities.
Of course there will be the usual monthly activities along with all monthly meeting of the F.N.S. most among them, a camaraderie of socializing with others that share coin collecting interest as yourself.
So, hope to see you there and invite someone, as this and all monthly meetings are open to the public and all are encouraged to attend.

Picked this up at Fresno Coin Gallery today. A 1903-O Morgan dollar and it actually looks a bit better than the pictures, which doesn’t say much for my photography skills. At one time, the 1903-O Morgan was considered the key coin of the set, even more rarer than the 1893-S, as a majority of them were believed to be melted down due to the Pitman act of 1918 where huge numbers of dollars and other silver coins were melted down. At one time fewer than 10 were believed to be in mint state and they carried very high premiums. Then in 1962 bags and bags were discovered stored and forgotten about in U.S. Treasury vaults and suddenly there were thousands of mint state 1903-O Morgans. The premiums on them dropped significantly over night. They are still a key date and a lot easier to obtain, however, they remain knocked of their throne as king of the Morgan dollars.

I got this coin about 25 or so years ago. An old ANACS holdered graded coin graded MS-64 PL. I’ve often questioned the decision of the grade, it having several bag mark nicks I felt were too many for a MS-64. Maybe they were a little lenient on account it being PL but then, I’m not a professional grader. Regardless, it’s a “CC” coin that has a nice look with the little bit of toning to it.

What a lucky find this guy had. It pays to look at your change, coins and currency.

Okay, now we're rolling into this new year of 2026. With one month down and into the second one of February, its time for another monthly meeting of the Fresno Numismatic Society with the next one scheduled for February 17, 2026, 7:00 PM. Meeting held at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1084 W. Bullard just west of Palm in Fresno.
Slated for the program is our fearless leader, President Steve Mendyk. Mr. Mendyk was going to speak on currency but I have heard that the subject of his program has changed. I did not catch what it was changed to, it will be one of the mysteries we will all find the answer to when attending the meeting,
Besides the educational program we will also be having our other monthly meeting activities, our show and tell, the break for refreshments and socializing, the club's auction of numismatic items and the door prize raffle. This meeting and all monthly meetings are open to the public and everyone is welcome to attend. Hope to see y'all there.

Of course there will be the usual monthly activities included in all F.N.S. monthly meetings, the door prize raffle, the club's auction and refreshments and socializing.
So grab your spouse and get off the couch, come out and join in the fun as this and all monthly meetings are open to the public and all, are welcome to attend.

Recently I have found encased stamps interesting. These were used during the American Civil War when there was a severe coin shortage. To help make up for the shortages postal stamps were used for small change. During that time someone got the idea to sell advertising on the reverse side (the had been blank at first). Here are a couple different denominations of examples and one carries advertisement for a brand of Sarsaparilla on its reverse.

As you know by now, our coin show for the year 2025 is over and was a certifiably and complete success. Attendance was fairly close to 2024 but the people that attended came to purchase and that made the dealers extremely happy. There was concern about going against the Fresno District Fair, but that didn't seem to phase us one bit. Thank you all who attended, you made our show and hope to see you al next year.
And about next year's show? It's in the works and we will do our utmost to bring another quality show for the public to enjoy. An exact date has not been confirmed yet, but all is moving forward. Will be posting information as the show progresses, until then, stay tuned, we'll keep you informed. Thanks again.
