Bellwether Harbor Animal Shelter is a safe place for homeless animals and people to meet and experience the human animal bond. We are dedicated to the health and wellbeing of abandoned, abused, and neglected dogs and cats in our community. We have even more wonderful vendors joining us for Bellwether Harbor’s Craft and Vendor Market on September 12th from 10 AM–3 PM!

Black Thumb Blooms will have pipe cleaner flowers, including a build-your-own bouquet bar where you can create something completely your own, along with a selection of premade bouquets.

Under the Sun Co. will be bringing handmade, hypoallergenic polymer clay earrings and a variety of other handmade items.

Creation Meditation will have some truly unique and imaginative items, including a fold-and-stow Fairy Garden complete with dolls, magical creatures, hammocks, a waterfall, furniture, outfits and plenty of accessories. Everything fits into a 16” x 22” x 6” box with a handle, making it easy to take along and store. They will also have Pose and Play 10-figure sets, an Animal Nativity with a stone and clay crèche, palm tree and rocks, prayer beads with a booklet of meditations and video links, and meditation tools for kids.

WhatsoeverCrafts will have a little bit of everything, including dog bandanas, upcycled flannel T-shirts and sweatshirts, salt and pepper shaker tassels, microwave cozies, jar grippers, hot pads, reusable paperless towels, neck cooling wraps for both people and pets, chicken anti-bully apron saddles, skillet handle covers, handbags, keychains and more.

The Keeper’s Light creates hand-poured soy candles and home fragrance products inspired by the beauty and memories of West Michigan. Their fragrances are made in small batches with premium ingredients and are inspired by familiar moments like crisp autumn orchards, cozy kitchens and peaceful lakeshore sunsets.

Rare Root Botanicals is a small, family-owned plant business based in Muskegon. They specialize in healthy tropical houseplants, from easy-care beginner plants to rare collector varieties, so there will be something for every plant lover.

Come spend the day shopping small, meeting our vendors, visiting with the adoptable animals and supporting Bellwether Harbor! We hope to see you there!

Rio is 4½ years old, weighs 76 pounds, and is one of those dogs that makes you wonder how he ended up in a shelter in the first place.

This big mixed-breed boy is as sweet and friendly as they come. Rio loves people and has never met a stranger. He is the kind of dog who is happy just to be included, whether that means going for a walk, hanging out with you, or simply being close by. He walks great on a leash, is very people-oriented, and genuinely wants to make his person happy.

Rio has done well with dogs, kids, and cats, making him an easy dog to picture fitting into all kinds of homes. He is also at that wonderful age where the puppy and young-dog antics have passed, but he still has plenty of life and love left to share.

We have spent time getting to know Rio and honestly keep waiting for a flaw to show up. So far, we have found absolutely nothing to complain about. He is kind, well-mannered, affectionate, and just an all-around wonderful dog.

Rio is neutered, up to date on his vaccines, and ready to find the family he has been waiting for. If you are looking for a big-hearted dog who will be happy to be your best friend, Rio may be exactly who you have been looking for. 🐾

We’re excited to continue highlighting some of the amazing vendors joining us for Bellwether Harbor’s Craft & Vendor Market on September 12th from 10 AM–3 PM!

Mary B’s Paper and Prints creates homemade greeting cards and art prints inspired by travel, photography, and life on their hobby farm.

LHS Slime Co. will have premade slime available for purchase, along with the chance to craft your very own slime at the market.

CG Knives offers handmade knives made with exotic hardwoods and other durable materials. Each piece is unique and carefully crafted.

CV3D was started by 15-year-old Cole in the fall of 2025. He creates 3D-printed fidgets, toys, holiday décor, and home décor. Cole is also saving space at his table for his 11-year-old sister to sell her homemade bracelets!

Leaping Frog Crafts creates handmade cloth dolls, including colorful frogs, bunnies, folk art dolls, primitives, art dolls, Raggedy dolls, and more.

Dog Mom Adventure offers a variety of dog-mom-inspired products, including graphic T-shirts, dog bandanas, can koozies, keychains, dog tug toys, and other fun accessories made for women who consider their dogs family.

This is just a small look at the vendors who will be joining us! Come support these talented makers, meet some of our adoptable animals, and enjoy a fun day at Bellwether Harbor. Proceeds from the event help care for the animals at the shelter.

Sunday came to us as a stray with her six kittens. She did a wonderful job raising them, and she has now watched many of them leave for their forever homes. Her kittens have been weaned and on their own for quite some time, so now Sunday is ready for someone to focus on her and help her find a home of her own.

Sunday is 2 years old, spayed, and up to date on her vaccines. She is very shy and nervous in new places, and it took her a while to warm up to us. But once Sunday decided we were okay, she showed us what a sweet girl she really is.

She can still be scared by loud noises and quick movements, so she will need a calm and patient home that will give her time to settle in. Sunday has already started making brave progress here. She is leaning into pets, accepting attention, and even venturing out to explore the lobby instead of staying tucked away.

Sunday may need a little time before she feels completely comfortable, but she is learning to trust and becoming more confident every day. She spent a long time caring for her kittens, and now she deserves someone who will be patient with her and give her the chance to be spoiled, loved, and cared for in return. 🐾

Pickles is 2½ years old, a little bit chunky, and has more than enough personality to fill an entire room.

She is spicy, sassy, and very opinionated. Pickles has no problem making sure everyone knows exactly what she thinks, especially when it comes to things she does not agree with. Running around and playing? Absolutely. Getting pets and scratches? Definitely. Being picked up? Absolutely not. Pickles would like to formally decline that activity forever and prefers to keep all four feet safely on the ground.

Even with all of her opinions, Pickles is truly a sweet girl. She enjoys attention from people she likes and is always happy to settle in for some good scratches. She is playful, entertaining, and the kind of cat who will keep you laughing because you never quite know what she is going to do next.

Pickles would do best as the only cat in the home and does not like dogs. She needs someone who will respect her boundaries, appreciate her big personality, and understand that she is happiest when she gets to make her own decisions. In return, she will give you plenty of entertainment, a whole lot of sass, and plenty of sweet moments when she decides it’s time for pets.

Pickles is spayed, up to date on her vaccines, and ready to be the only queen of the castle. 🐾

Reba and June are two sweet mixed-breed girls who are still waiting for their people to find them.

At 5 months old and about 20 pounds, they are the perfect age to keep learning and growing with a family. Both girls are incredibly sweet, love people, and are always happy to spend time with whoever is willing to give them attention. They enjoy going for short walks, exploring their surroundings, and taking in everything around them.

They have also shown us that they are very smart and eager to learn. Like most puppies, they still have plenty of growing and learning to do, but they are ready to have someone guide them and help them become the best dogs they can be.

Reba and June are both spayed and up to date on their vaccines. They can be adopted separately and are ready to find homes where they can continue being loved, spoiled, and included in all the important family activities. 🐾

Bingo is coming back to Bellwether Harbor Animal Shelter!

We will be starting our bingo nights back up on Thursday, September 17th, from 5:30–7:30 PM. Bingo will then be held every third Thursday of the month.

Must be 18 years or older to play!

Come out, have some fun, and spend the evening with us while supporting the animals at Bellwether Harbor. Whether you are a regular bingo player or have never played before, everyone is welcome!

Cassius is almost 6 months old, and he has now spent about four months of his young life at the shelter. During that time, he has watched all of his siblings find homes while he continues to wait for someone to notice him.

And honestly, we’re not sure how anyone could spend time with Cassius and not fall completely in love with him. He is the sweetest boy, very confident, playful, and absolutely loves people. He is always ready to say hello, hang out with you, and show you exactly why he would make such a wonderful addition to a home.

Cassius is also a very dedicated employee at the biscuit factory. He makes biscuits while getting attention, while relaxing, while playing, and sometimes for no obvious reason at all. We’re pretty sure he is working overtime to make up for all the orders he missed while waiting for his family.

Cassius is neutered and up to date on his current vaccines. He is ready to leave the shelter and start being someone’s spoiled, happy house cat. After watching all of his siblings go home, it’s really time for Cassius to get his own person. 🐾

Sadie is a year-and-a-half-old Shepherd/Pit mix who may not be the type to immediately run up and greet everyone she meets. She has some stranger danger at first and can be unsure when meeting new people, but give her a little time and she settles in. Once she is comfortable, Sadie turns into the sweetest, most gentle girl.

Sadie really enjoys being outside where she can explore and take in everything around her. She also loves playing fetch and will happily spend time chasing after a toy before bringing it back for another round. She walks decently on a leash and has done well with dog introductions so far.

She can be stubborn once in a while, but Sadie is also a smart girl who already knows quite a few things. She knows sit, down, and paw, and she is more than willing to show them off when she is in the mood. She keeps her kennel exceptionally clean and has been a really good girl while waiting for someone to notice her.

Sadie is looking for a patient person who will let her take her time and build her confidence. She may need a little longer to warm up than some dogs, but once she trusts you, she is gentle, loving, and so worth getting to know.
