Bellwether Harbor Animal Shelter is a safe place for homeless animals and people to meet and experience the human animal bond. We are dedicated to the health and wellbeing of abandoned, abused, and neglected dogs and cats in our community. As humans, we provide love and quality care and in return, the animals give us lessons of unconditional love. They are teachers and healers of extraordinary talent. Here at Bellwether Harbor, we nurture the mutually beneficial relationships between humans and animals. We invite you to come to our shelter and visit with the many homeless dogs and cats we have in our safe keeping until their forever home is found.

This little guy was found inside the Reed Kraley building on Main Street in Fremont, and we’re hoping to help him find his way back home!

Meet Noodle!

Noodle is just a few days shy of 5 months old, and her little life has already started with more heartbreak than any kitten should ever have to know. Someone witnessed Noodle being thrown out of a moving vehicle window. Noodle suffered two broken legs from the incident, both of which required surgical repair. She then spent a good amount of time on kennel rest while her little body healed.

And yet, here she is. After everything she has been through, Noodle has made an incredible recovery and is doing amazing. You would never know that this little girl had such a traumatic start to life. She isn't walking around holding a grudge against the world or hiding away from the people in it. Instead, she wants to be right in the middle of everything, soaking up attention, playing, and loving on anyone willing to give her the time of day.

There is something pretty incredible about animals and how forgiving they can be. They don't understand why someone would hurt them, and they certainly don't deserve it, but so many of them continue to trust, love, and look for the good in people anyway. Noodle is a pretty wonderful example of that. Despite what happened to her, she is one of the sweetest, most loving little kittens you could meet, and she has so much happiness and love left to give.

Now, Noodle deserves a home where she will never have to experience anything like that again. She deserves a family who will keep her safe, spoil her rotten, and give her all the love that should have been hers from the very beginning. She has already proven just how resilient she is, and we would love nothing more than to see the next chapter of her life be filled with all the good things she deserves. ❤️

Noodle is ready to leave her difficult beginning behind and start the rest of her life with a family of her own.

Meet Teddy! 🐾

Teddy is 5 and a half months old, and she's already got a little bit of spice to go along with all that sweetness. She's a sassy girl who likes things a certain way, and she's not afraid to let you know it! 😂 But underneath that little bit of attitude is a kitten who genuinely enjoys people and is actually quite sweet and cuddly.

Teddy isn't mean by any means. She's just got some personality, and we think the right person will appreciate that about her. She enjoys attention and affection, but she's also got her own little quirks that make her Teddy. You're not going to find a boring personality here!

One thing Teddy is pretty sure about is that she'd like to be the only cat in the home. She isn't interested in sharing her space with another feline, and she'd much rather have all the attention to herself. Some cats love having friends around, but Teddy would prefer to be the queen of her own castle. 👑

Teddy is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on her vaccines. Now she's looking for a home that will love her sweet side, put up with a little sass, and appreciate her for the cat she is. If a cuddly kitten with a bit of an attitude sounds like your kind of cat, come meet Teddy!

Meet Sadie! 🐾

If there's one thing Sadie knows how to do, it's make sure nobody is having a boring day. This 1.5-year-old Shepherd/Pit mix is the queen of zoomies, and she has a way of making everything a little more fun with her antics. 😂 If you're looking for a dog who will keep you entertained, Sadie would like to throw her name into the running!

Sadie is a fun-loving girl who enjoys playing fetch, getting outside, and going for walks. She's a pretty good walking buddy on a leash, keeps her kennel exceptionally clean, and knows some basic commands like sit, down, and paw. She's a smart girl.

She can be a little unsure of new people at first, so she'll appreciate having a little time to warm up. Once she's comfortable, her personality really starts to shine. Sadie is dog-friendly, but a meet and greet with any potential canine siblings is required. Cats, however, are a little too tempting to chase, so a cat-free home would be best for her.

Sadie is still young and has plenty of life ahead of her. She deserves a family who will enjoy her goofy personality, give her opportunities to burn off that zoomie energy, and love her for the entertaining little character she is. Life with Sadie probably won't be boring, but that's kind of the point. ❤️

Kimber is 8 years old, weighs 50 pounds, and is proof that a girl can be a little chunky and still be a pretty compact package. 😂 She's not nearly as big as that number might have you thinking; she's actually a fairly small, stocky girl who just happens to enjoy her snacks!

Kimber is a sweetheart who would be perfectly happy spending her days going for leisurely walks, getting some fresh air, and finding the coziest spot in the house to take a nap. She's also a big fan of blankets, especially the ones she's not technically supposed to be using. If there's a cozy place to curl up, Kimber will find it.

At 8 years old, she's not looking to keep up with a busy household or be everyone's adventure buddy. She's much more interested in enjoying the simple things with someone of her own. Kimber would do best in a quieter home without young children or other dogs, as those situations tend to make her anxious. She'd really appreciate a home where she can relax, get some attention, and enjoy a little peace and quiet.

Kimber has plenty of love left to give, and we'd really like to see her spending her days in a home instead of a shelter kennel. She deserves a comfortable bed, a few good blankets, regular strolls outside, and someone who thinks she's just as special as we do.

If you're looking for a sweet, compact companion who appreciates the finer things in life (like naps and unattended blankets), Kimber might be your girl. ❤️

🐾 Meet Thursday! The biscuit-making, attention-seeking professional! 🐾

Thursday is a 5½-month-old kitten who has decided that people are pretty great, and he has absolutely no problem making sure they know it. This boy is a certified biscuit factory, and if you're nearby, there's a good chance he'll be making biscuits while soaking up all the attention he can get.

Thursday genuinely enjoys being around people and is more than happy to seek out attention all on his own. He's even been known to climb a few legs to make sure he doesn't get overlooked. 😂 He's not being naughty; he just has places to be and people to see, and apparently, waiting for an invitation isn't always part of the plan!
He's a sweet, people-loving kitten who wants to be involved in whatever you're doing, preferably with some attention thrown his way.

Thursday is neutered, up to date on his vaccines, and microchipped. Now he just needs a family of his own to give all those biscuits to! ❤️

We are so happy with how our TNR event turned out last week! ❤️

26 cats were spayed and neutered, which means 26 cats who will no longer contribute to unwanted litters and so many future kittens who won’t have to face uncertain futures.

A huge thank you to the veterinarians who helped us throughout the event and made it possible to care for so many cats. We are incredibly grateful for the time and care you gave each one.

Thank you also to our volunteers who spent time sitting with the cats as they woke up, keeping them comfortable, and caring for them like they were their own. And of course, thank you to our staff for all of the work that went into making everything happen.

Most of all, thank you to everyone who participated by bringing in cats and taking responsibility for their futures. By having these cats spayed and neutered, you are not only helping them, but also preventing litter after litter of kittens from being born into uncertain situations.

We truly love our community and the way everyone comes together to help animals in need. We couldn't do events like this without all of you, and we can't wait to do it again in the spring! ❤️

Artemis is still looking for her person. ❤️

Artemis is a 2-and-a-half-year-old, 40-pound Aussie Heeler mix who is sweet, smart, energetic, and very devoted to the people she knows and trusts.

She has lived with other dogs before, but she has made it pretty clear that she would prefer to be the only dog in her home. She is fine being around other dogs, but she does not want to share her home with one. She has also lived with cats and did well with them.

Artemis can be a little shy and unsure when meeting new people. She may take some time to warm up during those initial greetings, but once she gets comfortable, she becomes much more relaxed and affectionate. She can also struggle with being left alone and will need to be crated when home by herself.

Once Artemis gets comfortable with you, she is a very loving and loyal dog who becomes quite attached to her people. She would do best with someone who understands that she may need a little extra patience and reassurance while adjusting to a new home.

Bellwether Harbor Animal Shelter is looking for a **Part-Time Animal Care Specialist (ACS)** to join our team!

Our Animal Care Specialists are a huge part of what keeps our shelter running every day. From cleaning kennels and preparing meals to providing enrichment, exercise, and socialization, our ACS team helps make sure every animal in our care receives the attention and care they deserve while waiting for their forever homes.

Position Details
🐾 Part-time — 16–32 hours per week
🐾 $13.73/hour
🐾 Must be 18 years or older
🐾 Weekend and holiday availability is required
🐾 Reliable transportation required

What does the job involve?

• Providing daily care for dogs and cats, including feeding, watering, cleaning, enrichment, and exercise
• Socializing with shelter animals and helping them build confidence
• Assisting with basic training and behavior work
• Helping with medications under the supervision of the Shelter Manager/LVT
• Monitoring animals for changes in their health or behavior
• Maintaining clean, organized, and safe kennels, cat rooms, outdoor spaces, and other shelter areas
• Working alongside staff and volunteers to provide consistent care
• Assisting the public with animal-related questions
• Helping with shelter events, fundraisers, and other activities
• Following shelter policies and animal care procedures

What are we looking for?

We're looking for someone who is dependable, hardworking, patient, and genuinely cares about the wellbeing of animals. You should be comfortable working with dogs and cats of all different sizes, personalities, and temperaments, and be willing to learn proper handling and safety procedures.

This is a physically demanding position that requires being on your feet for extended periods, bending, lifting, and being able to lift at least 50 pounds.

Previous animal care experience is preferred but not required! We are willing to train the right person.

A little something to keep in mind...

Working at an animal shelter isn't just playing with puppies and cuddling kittens. There are dirty kennels, endless loads of laundry, dishes, messes to clean up, and plenty of hard work that happens behind the scenes. Some days are busy, stressful, and downright exhausting. You'll also work with animals who may be scared, stressed, or need a little extra patience and understanding.

But you'll also get to watch a nervous dog slowly come out of their shell, see a shy cat start seeking out attention, and help animals become more comfortable and confident during their time with us. You'll get to know their individual personalities, celebrate their progress, and hopefully see them head off to their new homes.

**We're looking for someone who understands that both sides of shelter work are equally important and is ready to be part of it.**
