Fremont Area Community Foundation Our Community Foundation serves to improve the quality of life for all people in Newaygo County.

Fremont Area Community Foundation started as the private Fremont Foundation in 1951 and was reorganized 20 years later into its current legal structure as a public community foundation. The community foundation is comprised of more than 500 separate funds including two supporting organizations and three geographic affiliates. It is one of the largest community foundations in the United States on a

per capita basis, serving a population of approximately 50,000 with net assets of over $229 million.

Today on we remember Dillon Potter-Zimmerman. Dillon was the son of Melodie Potter and Rae Zimmerman. He liked fishing, sports, and spending time with family and friends. He was a fourth grader at Grant Elementary when he passed away in 2007. A fund was created in his memory to support programs for youth.

We’re excited to welcome Laura Britting to our staff! Laura joins the team as our Affiliate Foundation Manager, helping support our three affiliate foundations in Lake, Mecosta, and Osceola counties. Laura grew up in Michigan and has lived in Lake County for several years. She has extensive experience working with nonprofit organizations and loves hiking, spending time near the water, and camping with her family. “In previous positions, I’ve worked with organizations in Lake, Mecosta, and Osceola counties,” said Laura. “I’m looking forward to engaging again with these communities and helping the affiliate foundations make an impact for people in our area.”

This week we honor Our Next 75 members John and Ailene Pugno. Both grew up in the area and returned here to live as adults. Through the Community Foundation, they created “his and hers" funds. “We have different wants and desires for the funds, but we both wanted to do something,” said John. One fund will focus on environmental issues and the other will benefit a pair of local organizations. “We wanted to do something local and something that would last,” said Ailene.

Today on , we are grateful for Kim and Pam Gary who give through our affiliate Lake County Community Foundation. Kim and Pam bought a cabin on the river in Lake County in the early 2000s. “When we got up to Baldwin, it took our breath away,” said Kim. They wasted no time getting involved in the community and have created a donor advised fund at LCCF. “It will be a gift that keeps giving,” said Kim.
