Federated Charities Frederick FEDERATED CHARITIES was founded with the intention of providing charitable services to Frederick County residents in a central location under a single roof.

Federated Charities empowers nonprofit organizations by providing collaborative support, vital resources, and affordable operational space, enabling them to maximize their impact and strengthen our community. Our building at 22 South Market Street was donated as a generous bequest in the mid-1930s from the estate of Miss Margaret Williams whose family owned it as a private home. In turn, we have p

rovided a “home” to such diverse charitable organizations as the Red Cross, The Frederick Community Foundation, United Way and The Downtown Frederick Partnership. We have also operated a kindergarten, distributed food and clothing to the needy and addressed medical needs in the community. Today, we are the “bricks and mortar” to 8 human services organizations and we operate a free medical equipment loan closet.

Rainy days (and all staff days) are about some of the necessary chores we do to maintain our center on the inside and outside and it's all hands on deck today to clean our original front doors, polish brass and move some art around to keep things feeling fresh for our partners.

Please excuse us now, we're going to go move some furniture around!-)

One of the main pillars of our work at Federated Charities is to ease the burden of operating a nonprofit and our center uses its space to make that happen every day. Someone was super busy making sure our monster didn’t have to sit in the rain all weekend alone. Why do we promote art like this you might ask? Because of the little girl two weeks ago who told us that Federated Charities was her favorite garden. When you do this work, you don’t always get to understand its impact but thanks to an abandoned wagon and some toys, we bring joy to someone’s day.

New week and we know you're all refreshed from a 3-day weekend so get your coffee and sign up for the Frederick Nonprofit Summit. The format is a half day and they've gotten a cracker jack speaker for the day.

Everyone starts somewhere...even communities. Our partners at the Downtown Frederick Partnership periodically offer opportunities for Downtown business owners to visit other, similar communities and if there's a gap in our calendar, we usually try to take advantage (because placemaking is a little bit of a thing for us 🤣) Yesterday we went out into the heat and visited Highlandtown Main Street where we met with other business owners and community leaders.

Nonprofits start somewhere too...and that's sometimes on our front steps. It's all part of how we work together, building community.
