Federated Charities Frederick FEDERATED CHARITIES was founded with the intention of providing charitable services to Frederick County residents in a central location under a single roof.

Federated Charities empowers nonprofit organizations by providing collaborative support, vital resources, and affordable operational space, enabling them to maximize their impact and strengthen our community. Our building at 22 South Market Street was donated as a generous bequest in the mid-1930s from the estate of Miss Margaret Williams whose family owned it as a private home. In turn, we have p

rovided a “home” to such diverse charitable organizations as the Red Cross, The Frederick Community Foundation, United Way and The Downtown Frederick Partnership. We have also operated a kindergarten, distributed food and clothing to the needy and addressed medical needs in the community. Today, we are the “bricks and mortar” to 8 human services organizations and we operate a free medical equipment loan closet.

The Federated Charities offices will be closed today to commemorate Juneteenth.

The significance of this date: While the Emancipation Proclamation declared enslaved people in the United States of America free on January 1, 1863, it could not be fully enforced in areas still under Confederate control. In 1865, slaves in Texas were unaware of their freedom and it was the last place to receive the news and enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation. General Granger's arrival with Union troops in Galveston, Texas, ensured that freedom was finally enforced and that all enslaved people in the United States of America were finally free.

Perhaps the question is "How many Federated Charities staff does it take to film reels like these? 🤣"

You've probably noticed that we haven't put out Leda this season. We had every intention of installing our fountain this year until we took a closer look at the basin and realized that we might harm it more by filling it with water for one more season. But, we still have a restoration project planned for 2026 and we are raising funds to help us cover the costs to fully restore the statue and basin. So, we filled it up with ping pong balls and our duck mascot. You can help us by making a matching donation and ensure that this piece of art shows up for another 150 years in Frederick.

But the real answer is the last one, it's the helpers everywhere that keep this train anywhere close to the tracks and on time and we're proud to be a support system for the helpers and their organizations.

Every artist starts somewhere, right?

We're excited to host our 2nd annual ART market in our courtyard on Saturday. Join us to meet some artists who have developed waaaaaay beyond this 🤣

Why an art market, you ask? We are big fans of public art here in our center and love supporting local makers and creatives and see it as a way to build community...plus, then people get to visit our beautiful patio.

You may not realize but our Heart of Charity event was originally conceptualized as a dog fashion show…but we think FFOCAS probably does it better. We were honored to celebrate with them at their event last night and are even more proud to have been partners with them over the years ❤️ Because that’s what we do even better!
