What an incredible evening at "Why Art Matters: Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day" 💚

This was our 4th year bringing the community together to break down the stigma around youth mental health through the arts, creativity, storytelling, performance, and Photovoice.

A huge thank you to all of the community providers and organizations who showed up to share resources and support youth and families throughout Frederick County. This is what collaboration and community care look like.

We also want to give a special shout-out to the Frederick Youth Council for their amazing leadership, partnership, talent, and vulnerability throughout the evening. From facilitating the youth panel discussion to performing in the talent show, these young leaders truly showed the power of youth voice in action.

Thank you to every youth who shared their artwork, stories, music, dance, and creativity with us. Your voices matter. Your stories matter. YOU matter.

We are so grateful to everyone who supported this important work and helped create meaningful conversations around mental health, healing, expression, and connection. Last night’s opening at the Delaplaine Arts Center was truly special. Thank you to everyone who came out to support the work—it meant so much to see the community show up in such a meaningful way.

A huge shoutout to our incredible youth participants. Your voices, your stories, and your courage are what make this work so powerful. And thank you to our community partners—Frederick Youthcouncil Asian American Center of Frederick, and Boys & Girls Club of Frederick—for continuing to stand with us and support youth in sharing their lived experiences.

Special thanks to Delegate Karen Simpson for always supporting our programs.

We are deeply grateful to our funders who make this work possible and help expand its reach: Delaplaine Foundation, Inc., Ausherman Family Foundation, Frederick Arts Council, Maryland State Arts Council, City of Frederick, and Asian American Center of Frederick

Our 2026 Photovoice exhibit, Youth Voices in Focus: Why Art Matters, is on display at the Delaplaine throughout May. This year’s exhibit highlights youth perspectives on mental health, using powerful images and narratives to show how creativity supports healing, expression, and resilience.

We hope you’ll continue to be part of this movement. Join us for our next event at New Spire Arts for Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day at 6 PM. The evening will include a youth provider resource fair, a Frederick Youth Council panel, and a youth talent show.

Again, thank you to everyone who came out—your support truly makes this work possible. 💛

We’re so proud of our amazing youth participants and members of the FFrederick Youthcouncilwho helped facilitate Photovoice projects this year with the Boys & Girls Club of Frederick County. This is what youth leadership in action looks like.

At the heart of TAP’s mission is not just creating space for youth voice, but training youth and community members to become facilitators in their own communities. Through Photovoice, they learn how to use photography and storytelling to explore real issues, lead conversations, and turn lived experience into meaningful dialogue and change.

Our 2026 exhibit, Youth Voices in Focus: Why Art Matters, brings together powerful images and narratives from a diverse group of youth across Frederick and beyond—including international voices. This year’s focus on youth mental health highlights how creative expression can serve as a tool for coping, healing, and resilience.

This is more than an exhibit—it’s a community-driven needs assessment, a platform for youth voice, and a pathway to leadership.

Take a moment to watch and see the impact for yourself. 💛

May 1 marks the start of a new month and May is Mental Health Awareness Month.

Such an honor to partner, looking forward to offering TAP programs to the youth.
