Educators: Looking for new ways to bring hands-on science into your classroom next year? Consider applying for one of our professional development workshops this summer. Workshops take place at SERC's waterfront campus in Edgewater, Maryland, and in Washington, D.C. Applications due in early June (dates vary by workshop). See details below.
Growing Together (Aug. 10-14): Join us for a one-week workshop on how to incorporate nature play and nature-based learning into schools and classrooms. This workshop will split time between the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, Smithsonian Gardens and the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute. For early childhood educators (0-5 years old). $1500 stipend included. Apply by June 7.

Data and Design (Aug 3-5): Learn how to use real-world environmental data and design thinking in the classroom with Cooper Hewitt, during a 3-day workshop at SERC. For middle and high school educators. $150 honorarium for participating. Apply by June 14.

Build-A-Garden: Native Plants for the Classroom (July 22 and Aug. 7): Free one-day event at SERC to learn about our native plant research, try your hand at a pollinator STEAM activity and build a portable garden to use in your classroom or center. For 5th-12th grade educators. Offered on two separate days; same workshop both days. Apply by June 10.
