Look at all these GREEN FLAGS!

What a great celebration of environmental stewardship and outdoor education at yesterday's MAEOE Youth Summit at Sandy Point State Park! EIGHT schools from Frederick County were awarded their Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education Green School certification! And the UMD Extension earned a Green Center certification. Plus, students from Frederick County comprise the MAEOE Youth Corps, which led several learning stations throughout the park.

Our team loves supporting these schools, teachers, and staff and assisting with this recognition event! Frederick County now has 19 Green Schools (a near quadrupling since we started this collaboration).

Congratulations to Frederick Adventist Academy, Frederick High School, Friends Meeting School, Lucy School, Mother Seton School, Thurmont Elementary School, Urbana Elementary School, Wolfsville Elementary School.

Congratulations!!

Congratulations to Thurmont Elementary and Urbana Elementary for being the two latest FCPS communities added to the Maryland Green Schools program!

Both schools were newly certified in the Maryland Green Schools Program for 2025-26 by the Maryland Association for Environmental & Outdoor Education (MAEOE).

In addition, Wolfsville Elementary received the Sustainable Schools Award for 17 years as a Maryland Green School. Frederick High received its second Green School Award.

In Maryland, 702 schools are part of the Green School program, representing 34 percent of all Maryland schools. In total, FCPS has 15 Maryland Green Schools.

The students and staff at each Green School demonstrate and document their efforts to integrate sustainable environmental management practices, environmental education curriculum, professional development opportunities, and community engagement into daily operations.

FCPS Green Schools will be recognized at the Maryland Green Schools Youth Summit being held Thursday, May 28, at Sandy Point State Park.
