With thanks to our Director and volunteers, we are beginning our digitization projects. We found a jewel to share. Here are a few pages of Indenture record. The two long pages describe the apprenticeship of John Putnam (Born July 23, 1823) by his guardian Benjamin Dubois to a farmer Linis Vanchif (sp?). Now we need help transcribing. The full book is digitized at the museum for those would like to see it. This can be a great resource for those whose genealogy is here in the Franklin Township.

The Log Cabin Herb Garden began as a project in spring 2025. Wanting to present a historical representation of a colonial herb garden circa 1799, volunteers of the Franklin Historical Society gathered, gave their time, their donations of landscape ties, bedding dirt, and plants to create a wonderful garden on the front of the log cabin. This little garden flourished and has been enjoyed by many visitors.

On Saturday June 6, when the cabin was opened for visitors, we discovered our little herb garden had been destroyed by w**d whacking. We do not know who or why. It was sad to see hours of work and donations wiped out.

We are going to replant and rebuild this wonderful addition to our Log Cabin exhibit. We are looking for lavender, dill, thyme, purple coneflower, bee balm, rosemary, sage, basil, calendula and oregano.

If you would like to help, with your garden skills, herb donations, contact us, on Facebook or call the Franklin Area Historical Society at 937-746 -8295 and leave a message.
