It's Banned Book Week! This year's theme is “Let Books Be. Protect the Freedom to Read.” It couldn't come at a more important time because Texas recorded the largest number of book bans last school year, over 8,100, according to PEN America. Many school districts banned books in droves for fear of not complying with confusing legislation like SB13.
Banned books will always have a home at The Welman Project. We even have a whole club about it - The Welman Project's Banned Book Club: The Da Vinci Code! This month we're reading The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. Join us next Tuesday, October 13th at 5-7 p.m. for a discussion of the book as well as where and why it's banned.
We're closed 10/6-8, but stop by on Friday or Saturday to pick up a new favorite from the Banned Book section in Pages for the People, our free bookshop!
