Welcome to the United Way team, Tatum!

“Tatum Castaneda is the new Community Impact Coordinator at United Way of Fort Smith Area. A Fort Smith native, Tatum graduated from Southside High School before attending the University of Central Arkansas.

Tatum’s passion for serving her community began at a young age through volunteering with local organizations as a student. That passion grew throughout college, especially during her internship with the Fort Smith Children’s Shelter, where she discovered her love for nonprofit work and making a meaningful impact in the community.

Tatum is an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and a proud alumna of Immaculate Conception Catholic School. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing Mahjong, and enjoying a good lake day on Lake Ouachita.”

Our 21st Annual Power of the Purse was a wonderful celebration of community, generosity, and the power of coming together to make a difference! We are grateful to everyone who helped make this year's event such a success!

A special thank-you to Kennedy Holland, former Miss Arkansas, for being our keynote speaker and sharing such a wonderful message with our guests. We are also thankful to the Arkansas Colleges of Health Education for providing such a beautiful venue at the ACHE Research Institute Health & Wellness Center!

This is a true testament of every penny matters! Customers at JCPenney Fort Smith when they round up their purchase to the next dollar amount those funds go to United Way of Fort Smith Area. Just look at that total, $7291! In addition to this amount, JCPenney also gave a $500 gift card to a local family through the Salvation Army. We are so grateful for this partnership! Yesterday, we gathered for our 21st Annual Power of the Purse, benefiting United Way of Fort Smith Area’s Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who attended and helped support a program that brings the joy of reading to children throughout our six-county service area.

Weren’t able to join us? You can still make a difference!

Your donation helps provide children from birth to age five with a free, age-appropriate book delivered to their home every month. These books help build home libraries, encourage a love of reading, and give children a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
