NEW RULE:

If you want your child to grow up to be exactly who YOU imagined they would be, you’re not focused on loving your child ... you’re focused on a script you wrote for their life.

Children are not projects to be managed, products to be customized, or Build-A-Bears assembled to meet our preferences. They are unique human beings with their own identities, dreams, personalities, and journeys.

Parenting isn’t about creating a child in our image or raising a child to fulfill our expectations. It’s about loving the child who is already there — a person who is uniquely themself.

That includes children who are gay. Children who are trans. Children who are different from us in ways we never expected. The measure of our love isn’t whether our children become who we hoped they would be. It’s whether they know they are loved, valued, and safe when they become who they truly are.

Every child deserves that kind of love.

This Saturday we have volunteer opportunities from 9 AM to 6 PM. The event runs from 12 to 5 PM inside the Aims Community College Welcome Center. If you are available, we would love the help. Building Bridges Social! Thursday Jun 11, 2026 5:30pm - 7pm (MDT) Building Bridges is a collaboration between the City of Fort Collins’ Office of Equity & Inclusion and Rocky Mountain Equality’s Safety in Pride program.

We’re inviting LGBTQ+ community members and partners across public safety, including law enforcement, fire services, EMS, victim advocates, emergency management, dispatch/911 professionals, behavioral health responders, city and county staff, and community safety leaders to come together for an evening of connection.

We’ll be gathering in City Hall’s Xeriscape Gardens for food, music, games, conversation, and community. Whether you’ve attended Building Bridges before or are joining us for the first time, this is a chance to connect beyond meetings and agendas - to chat, laugh, ask questions, strengthen relationships, and imagine together what safer, more connected communities can look like.

Come as you are. Bring a colleague, neighbor, family or friend. We’d love to be in community with you.
