Come join us for a discussion of mathematics as a gendered space this coming Tuesday, March 1st at 5:00 PM in Weber 015! Please RSVP here: https://forms.gle/8YPULcvhHPsrFFQp8

We'll hold a presentation and discussion around mathematics as a gendered space, including ways in which mathematics culture often places value on dominant masculine characteristics and how this can affect students, especially women. We'll also discuss ways to challenge this notion and support gender equity in mathematical spaces. Plus, we'll be providing pizza again for the first time since the pandemic began!

Thanks to everyone who came out for our final meeting of Fall 2021! We'll see you in the spring!

In the meantime, if you have ideas for an AWM chapter t-shirt design, please send them our way at [email protected]! Designs should be one background color and one ink color, and if you have particular color combinations that you think would look particularly great, let us know! The priority deadline for designs is January 7th, but late entries may be considered. The winning design will be announced at our first meeting of the spring semester! See you then!

Don't forget to come to our discussion tonight on the educational and life impacts of COVID-19 and lockdowns! We'll be meeting in Weber 015 from 5:10 to 6:00 PM for small-group discussions, led by our community members who have volunteered as mentors in our mentor/mentee program.

Here are some sample discussion questions to start thinking about:
(1) Reflect on anything you've learned this past year during COVID that you may not have learned otherwise, e.g. academic habits, hobbies, etc.?
(2) In what ways, both positively and negatively, did this past year during COVID affect your academic learning?
(3) What sources of support did you experience over the past year during COVID?

We hope to see you there!

Our next meeting is tomorrow! This month, we're having a guided discussion around educational and life challenges and opportunities resulting from the COVID pandemic and lockdown, including an investigation of whether the commonly used "learning loss" term is actually representative of our experiences. The format will be small-group discussions, led by some of the mentors from our mentor/mentee program! We hope to see you there!

As a reminder, mentor/mentee signups are still available! Fill out the survey here if you're interested: https://forms.gle/ARAvHtHvR8GNDK4o8.
