zation, is an award-winning
annual arts journal named after the moon goddess. Originally
conceived by photographer Jeri Rogers in 1977, Artemis began as a feminist journal featuring women artists & writers. The Journal expanded to include bothgenders and became known as the voice of artists and writers of the Blue
Ridge during its 20+ years of publication. The theme of May’s 2014 Journal will be “Our connection to nature and place”. Maurice Ferguson will return as the Literary Editor along with Jeri
Rogers as Editor & Virginia Lepley as Design Editor. Nikki Giovanni, published Poet and Professor at Virginia Tech, was our guest poet for the 2015 Artemis with the theme "The courage of our convictions". Blue Mountain High School (BMHS) in Floyd, VA is coordinating a program for students to be mentored by Jeri and her collaborators into the world of publishing by participating the design, production, and selectionprocess of the 2014 Journal. The school has been awarded a $1000.00 grant
from the New River Valley Community Foundation to provide technology for the students. The call for submissions for the 2016 Journal was announced recently with the theme of "Trees, Our connection to Earth & Sky".
