Happy Earth Day from Blue Ridge Green Burial 🌿

Today, we honor the quiet, enduring relationship between people and the land.

At Blue Ridge Green Burial, we believe that even in death, we can give back—returning our bodies to the earth in a way that restores, protects, and nurtures the natural world.

Natural burial is more than a choice; it’s a final act of care for future generations, a way of becoming part of the landscape we love.

This Earth Day, may we all find small ways to live—and eventually rest—in deeper harmony with the earth.

RAMP season is here! To slow the disappearance of these beloved native plants, try foraging wild garlic (aka onion grass - see pictures) instead. It's punchy and super abundant. It's also invasive, so you'll be doing the ecosystem a favor by harvesting it!

However, if you still want to partake in the ramp frenzy this spring, try harvesting just a leaf or two, so the bulb can grow more leaves next year. Lastly, if you really need that bulb, use a knife to slice it just above the roots, which allows the plant to regrow in the future. (Nobody eats the roots anyway!)

It takes 22 years for a ramp patch to recover from a 25% harvest.
But take home all the “onion grass” you can carry!
