The WMCC builds grassroots support for climbers concerns and promotes the natural resources of Western Massachusetts for outdoor recreation through environmental stewardship and education. The WMCC does not seek to promote one type of climbing over another, but rather strives to preserve the unique character of climbing that has developed within each of the climbing areas in Western Massachusetts.

Election day is Nov. 3rd. A YES vote on question number six will dedicate a portion of existing taxes to water and land conservation.

How will this affect climbing? The WMCC works with land trusts to conserve land with climbing and benefits from grants for land conservation and recreational trails. So, a YES on six means more resources available for the work that the WMCC does to conserve climbing areas in Western Mass!

New crag unlocked!

The 'Southern Hemisphere' and 'Ephemeral' are the newest crags at Hanging Mountain, located to the climber's left of 'The Beech.' Check out the 12 new routes ranging from 5.7 to 5.12. You can find all the info in our free PDF guidebook (download the updated version on our website: climbgneiss.org/hanging-mountain/) or on GunksApps.

This crag wouldn't be possible without the work of the dedicated route developers and many volunteers who built the trail and belay platform. Volunteers have spent an impressive 𝟱𝟰𝟬 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀 over the last few years building stairs and retaining walls to stabilize the trail and belay area.

We hope you can come check it out soon, and if you appreciate the work of these volunteers, make a donation to the WMCC to support future work and come out to a trail day yourself. The weather looks nice and crisp for our event this Saturday at Hanging Mountain!

Come hangout with the WMCC and as we celebrate our partnership to conserve Hanging Mountain. There will be a group doing trail work to finish up the South Wall, a climbing meet up, a scavenger hunt, and a cook out in the parking lot at 4:00pm sponsored by . Joint memberships are a great way to spread the love. I mean, who says you have to choose just one climbing organization to support? Most of us climb all over New England, and even travel to climbing areas across the country!

Ragged Mountain Foundation x WMCC
In 2019, the WMCC partnered with the RMF to purchase Hanging Mountain. Although Hanging Mountain is located in Massachusetts, it's close proximity to Connecticut made this the perfect crag to partner up with our fellow local climbing organization (LCO). You can take advantage of our joint membership and reap the benefits of both LCO's.

Access Fund x WMCC
We are an Access Fund Affiliate Partner! We couldn't do the work we do in Massachusetts without the support of the Access Fund. The Access Fund supports local climbing organizations across the US by providing advice, loans, grants, and advocating for climbing at the highest levels. You can support both the WMCC and the Access Fund through our joint membership.

Join the WMCC for our quarterly board meeting at Boston Bouldering Project in Somerville, MA. This is a HYBRID meeting, so you can join online if you can’t make it to BBP that night.

During the board meeting, you’ll get updates about WMCC’s work at crags across Massachusetts, as well as updates about Farley and the construction of the new parking lot and trail head. We welcome questions and feedback at the meeting. For those in person, there will be pizza!
