image005.jpgDALY, MARGARET – Of Grand Blanc, age 90, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at Abbey Park Senior Living, surrounded by the love of her family.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11am on Thursday May 28, 2026 St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 7296 Gale Road, Goodrich, Father David Howell officiating.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 27, 2026 from 3-8 pm with a Vigil Service at 7 pm at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 W. Hill Road, Flint. Visitation 10am Thursday until the time of the Funeral Mass at church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Catholic Charities, St Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church or Greater Flint Olympian and CANUSA Association.

Margaret was born in Flint, Michigan on June 8, 1935, the daughter of the late Robert and Gertrude (Murray) McGovern.

She graduated from St. Michael Catholic School in 1953, where she met her high school sweetheart and future husband Richard (Dick) Daly. Margaret attended Flint Junior College and remained a lifelong learner. Margaret and Dick married on June 9, 1956 at St Michael Catholic Church in Flint.

Margaret was a woman of incredible faith. She was a devout member and loved serving as a volunteer at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church in Goodrich for many years. She was a member of the P.E.O. Chapter AY, where she acted as their chapter’s historian/archivist, as well as their book cover designer/artist for over 30 years. She was a member of the Champagne Ladies Card and Travel Club; the Grand Blanc Heritage Association; the Genesee County Historical Society; the National Trust for Historic Preservation; the Allegro-Flint Institute of Music; the Flint Institute of Arts; and was an honorary member of the Greater Flint Olympian and CANUSA Association. Margaret was named Irish Mother of the Year in 2017; and she received the Hank Kursik Award as Volunteer of the Year for the Flint Olympian & CANUSA Games.

Margaret’s professional career was spent with the Flint Community Schools as a beloved school secretary at Merrill Elementary and Cody Elementary Schools.

Margaret was a gifted artist with the natural talent to draw and paint. Over the years she took several classes at the FIA, finding watercolor painting to be her favorite. Margaret was inspired by and diligent with her art. It was appreciated widely among different organizations in the Flint community, and she had the honor of being commissioned to paint a mural depicting farming history at the historic Mott Farm. But mostly, she painted and sketched hundreds of pieces for her own enjoyment and that of her family and friends.

Margaret was a voracious reader of both fiction and nonfiction. She loved all things History and delighted in any opportunity to visit a historical landmark, often to her family’s chagrin. She was also fascinated by Geology, pointing out how glaciers formed the landscape, collecting unique stones on every vacation, and even made Dick pull over on the side of the road when she spotted a must-have rock. She enjoyed traveling the U.S. and abroad. Her annual summer trip to Lebanon, PA, with her mother and sisters was a beloved tradition. She and Dick saw much of Europe, especially Ireland and Prague.

Margaret had an adventurous spirit and was always up for even a day trip to Port Huron or Frankenmuth. She and Dick loved to downhill ski. Dick taught her to ski at Mt. Holly, they enjoyed ski weekends at Boyne Highlands, and onto bigger terrain in Colorado and Vermont. Regardless of location, après ski was never overlooked.

Sailing on Portage Lake was perhaps their favorite pastime.

She and Dick had a rich social life that was shared with their family and close knit group of friends. Highlights included the McGovern family Nanamal Open, the Daly cottage on Portage Lake, winters in Venice, FL; the Kentucky Derby party, Hoof and Cleat, the Bombay Gin Social Club, St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, and a few Snow Day patio parties for the ages. Margaret loved sports, paid close attention to the high school teams in Flint, and especially loved watching college football and March Madness.

Margaret was a wonderful wife, mother and Grandma-Grammy-Mimi. She is survived by her sons, Chris “Rooster” Daly, Rick and Mary Daly and Rob and Nancy Melet-Daly; daughters, Laura and Dave Smith, Julie and Michael Cenit and Ellen Perry; grandchildren, Carly Cenit, Lauren, Benjamin and Christopher (Morgan) Smith, Sydney (Blake) Drouillard and Kyle Daly, Bryce and Brooklyn Daly, Mazey Perry, Gillian Daly, Collin Harper, and Kayla (Thomas) Holcomb; great grandchildren: Emma and Lydia Smith, Makynli Lang and Hayes Drouillard; brothers-in-law: Al Macciomei and David Daly and fiancé Phyllis; and sister-in-law, Donna McGovern.

She was preceded in death by her husband Richard, son-in-law Jim Perry, twin sisters: Patricia Gartland and Adele Vickers, Mary Skinner and Margaret’s twin sister, Marian Macciomei; brother Bob McGovern; brothers-in-law, Tom Skinner, Don Gartland and Paul Vickers and sister-in-law, Margaret Mary Daly.

The Daly family would like to give a special thank you to the entire staff and medical team at Abbey Park.
