We had a family visit today to meet and greet with all the rescue donkeys at Crossroads. It was a birthday celebration! They came with bags of apple treats and a good time was had by all! Makes us smile!! 🥰

Today, The Donkey Express traveled to Thompson Station, TN to pick up a pair of jennys. Betsy and Judy's owners have recently been going through some difficult times dealing with a serious health issue. They felt they needed to try to place their donkeys in a safe place before waiting until they needed to scramble to find a loving home for them together. Betsy is an older small standard jenny and they were told that Judy is her daughter. Both are so very sweet! Easy to handle, leads and loads and good for the farrier. Betsy has foundered in the past so she needs to be on a dry lot and needs regular hoof trimming every 6 weeks. Crossroads will be looking for a loving, caring home for them as a pair. We will be posting more about these two and we learned more about them. We welcome Betsy and Judy to our Crossroads Family.

Our dedicated volunteer, Joanie, who has helped us with the training and rehabilitation of quite a few of our rescue animals, has volunteered for yet another project. She has started to work with Charlie. Charlie came to Crossroads as an owner surrender, who had him running with cattle and could no longer take care of either due to serious health issues. Charlie had been getting hooves trimmed but always needed to be sedated and it was even a challenge to get him caught. Joanie took up a new project to get Charlie to trust people and her goal is to get Charlie to get his hooves trimmed without the use of a sedative. Joanie's daily training sessions are having major breakthroughs in dealing with Charlie's trust issues. Makes us smile.

We had some isolated showers pop up today at the rescue. The donkeys did not even seek shelter from the rain. I think they felt relief from the hot humid weather and a bonus was a beautiful rainbow appearing in the skies. Feeling very grateful.

I tried to post this yesterday, but it didnt post it. Beautiful sunset that caught my attention with donkeys, Boo and Stanley, that had a red hue about them when i saw them, that brought the beautiful sunset to my attention. Sometimes, we need to take a time out to see the beauty of nature.

Temperatures were in the triple digits here at the rescue, and it was a hard working weekend for all involved! With the help of Maria and Mark, and the use of their skid steer, we put a major dent in brush cutting the pastures. We worked from morning until dark but got a big part of the pastures cleaned up. Thank you to volunteers Stephanie and Lily who came out Sat cleaning up fence lines. We still have more work to get done, but right now we are in need of some rest and recooperation after working under the hot sun for the past few days. What a weekend!

Working around the farm in the heat this evening. Look and see Pearl resting comfortably out in the pasture. Makes us smile!

I was able to capture this special moment today with Pearl, and our dedicated volunteer, Joanie. Joanie has been at Crossroads almost every day soaking and treating Pearl's hooves. Pearl has a long road to recovery ahead of her and Joanie has been here soaking, treating her hooves to give Pearl the best chance of recovery and healing. So much love!! Thank you Joanie!! 😇
