Our volunteers will be back to this Islip home, but here is what they accomplished on day one.
Outside they trimmed the bushes and trees that were blocking the entrance in the front yard. The bushes that blocked the side gate entrance were also trimmed, as well as those along the side of house. They reattached two railings on front steps. Grind out and cement and caulk large crack on side of front stoop. Next they replaced the leaking/cracked hose bib. The front door was reattached, inside trim around two side panel windows was added, and they adjusted the sweep on storm door. The kitchen needed work too: cut old piping, cap electric and pull dishwasher. Onto the bathroom, they had to pull toilet, cut off old fl**ge, install new =fl**ge, install toilet, replace fill valve. The team pulled out the old cracked sink, installed a new sink. New drain piping, new faucet and new feed line were also installed. Of course, 3 smoke alarms and a CO2 alarm were put in. A lot was accomplished in one day!

Here are photos of our Farmingville ramp that we mentioned. A lot of hard work went into building this very long ramp!

Our Farmingville neighbor had lots of work for us to do including construct a ramp (we'll show that next time). Here are some of the things that our volunteers were able to accomplish (and there's lots).
Outside they cut down old mailbox and installed new mailbox and post. The home received house numbers, a new door bell, and a new 6 step staircase and two railings were built. The widow shutters were remounted.
Two grab bars were installed in the bathroom, the doorway was widened and a new door with a new lockset put in along with a new sill.In the master bedroom the crew installed 22' of radiator covers. They replaced outlet, Installed a lever lockset and installed a grab bar outside the door.. In the daughter's room the crew fixed radiator covers, secured a bookcase to the wall and installed lever lockset. Many other repairs were done along with installing 6 smoke alarms and a CO2 alarm.
Sounds like so much was done to keep our neighbor safe and secure!

Working in a Baldwin home, the new front door needed to be replaced. The first two photos show the before and after. The last photo shows a door that because of the odd angled shape, it had to be custom built by one of our crew captains. Would you believe that there was NO door there at all!!!! We have so many talented volunteers. Don't you agree they are amazing?

Tomorrow is the big day! Moving to Melville. We'll be back in operation and ready to serve on Monday!

We're excited! Our staff is growing and we'll soon be relocating to a new office in Melville. On August 27th & 28th we'll actually leave Farmingdale to move and set up our new Melville office. We will officially reopen on Monday, August 31st. We'll always have many happy memories of our Farmingdale office, our first physical office, but we look forward to new beginnings.

Life can change in an instant and you are faced with new challenges that you never expected. If you're lucky, you will find a group of caring people like the volunteers at Rebuilding Together LI to lend a hand and make all the difference in the world. 💚

The Suffolk crew was in Shirley recently and it looks like they had a very busy day. So many Long Islanders count on our teams for their expertixe and their willingness to help.

They installed a handrail on the front porch, took the gutter down to reposition it and reinstall the screens, The rear deck got four new steips and railing. The kitchen window was weather-stripped, a GFCI added. Grab bars were added in the bathroom shower and next to the toilet. In the primary bathroom a new toilet was installed, new feed pipe and shot off valve and grab bars. New lighting was also installed and so on and so on and so on!

Can you imagine what it would cost to have to pay for all this work? If you need help and you qualify, there is absolutely no cost.
