Today is the Feast of St. Kateri Tekakwitha, Lily of the Mohawk, and Patron Saint of the Environment. The Native Garden in front of St. Martin's School is named in honor of the Native American who was a Native of New York. We should consider doing something to care for Creation today, as we are called to do in our life.

from Greenfaith: Yesterday, the President signed an executive order that will cripple US leadership on climate change and accelerate the planet’s warming. More warming mean more droughts and floods, more hunger, more disease, more poverty, more suffering.

This executive order is tragic at an epic level. It is morally unjustifiable.

Join a coalition of religious-environmental groups, including the Religious Action Center for Reform Judaism, the Franciscan Action Network, the Parliament of World Religions and others on Thursday, April 6 at 11:00 a.m. ET for a conference call for clergy to learn about the Peoples Climate Movement’s March in Washington DC, and around the country and world, on April 29.

Register for the call, which you can access by computer or phone here: https://zoom.us/webinar/register/9b96d1dcce7960fcdc2040ba88984b7b

We’ll share information about plans for the march in Washington DC, the threats that the executive order represents, and how you and your faith community can become involved - whether you go to DC or not.

Over the past decade, more and more clergy have supported action on climate change. Yesterday made it clear: our work is far from done. It is our time to rise.

Welcome! You are invited to join a webinar: Peoples Climate Movement Clergy Call - March for Climate, Jobs, Justice. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the event.

Join Grenfaith for a webinar next Monday, Feb. 6 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. ET about a major April 29 mobilization in Washington DC and learn how faith groups around the US and world can get involved.

During the first 100 hours of the new administration, over 70 multi-faith vigils took place around the country. On incredibly short notice, it was an awesome show of commitment. Now, it’s time to kick it up a notch.

Plans are underway for the People’s Climate Movement mobilization in Washington DC on April 29 for action on climate change that will create jobs, healthier communities, and a better future. A hugely diverse coalition of groups has come together - faith, environmental, labor, student, environmental and racial justice, and more. We need to show massive support for action on climate change.

On this webinar, you’ll hear from leaders from diverse faith communities – Jewish, Catholic, Protestant, Evangelical, Muslim, Buddhist, Unitarian Universalist – who are organizing their communities. You’ll also learn about organizing that’s happening in the greater DC area, and opportunities for groups around the country and beyond to get involved.

I really can’t emphasize how important it is for enormously large numbers of people to be involved in this. The only way that we will be able to protect the Earth is if more people than ever show that they care. This April, in one way or another, every house of worship in the US needs to be involved.

People power - peaceful, principled, and at massive scale - is what will enable us to protect our precious planet. I hope, and I pray, that you will join us on next Monday’s webinar and get involved.

In faith,

Rev. Fletcher Harper
Executive Director, Greenfaith

GreenFaith is inviting you to a free two-part Energy Management Training Webinar for Houses of Worship on October 27th and November 3rd, to show how your congregation can save money on your energy bills this winter, by implementing simple energy conservation steps that cost little or nothing to implement. These steps have been tested at hundreds of religious facilities and proven to lower energy usage at houses of worship by 10-20%.

Being mindful of your energy use also helps the environment, and is a great way to celebrate God by being a good steward of his creation.

Register here for the webinars - Thursday, October 27th, 12 noon- 1 p.m. ET and Thursday, November 3rd, 12 noon -1 p.m. ET. After we have received your registration, we will email you instructions how to join the webinars.

Today is Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. He is a Patron Saint of the Environment. In his honor, please do the following pledge:
PRAY and reflect on the duty to care for God's Creation and protect the poor and vulnerable;
LEARN about and educate others on the causes and moral dimensions of climate change;
ASSESS how we as individuals and in our families, parishes, and other affiliations, contribute to climate change by our own energy use, consumption, waste, etc.;
ACT to change our choices and behaviors to reduce the ways we contribute to climate change;
ADVOCATE for religious principles and priorities in climate change discussions and decisions, especially as they impact those who are poor and vulnerable.

Today is Long Island Car Free Day. Help take care of God's Creation by not using your car today. Walk if you can. That's why God gave us legs. It's also good exercise. Use the train or the bus if you need to get somewhere. Even if just for one day, answer Pope Francis' recent call in "Laudato Si" to be good stewards of our planet.

"I propose that we offer two prayers... we Christians ask for inspiration to take up the commitment to creation set before us by the Gospel of Jesus.:

A Christian prayer in union with creation:
Father, we praise you with all your creatures.
They came forth from your all-powerful hand;
they are yours, filled with your presence and your tender love.
Praise be to you!
Son of God, Jesus, through you all things were made.
You were formed in the womb of Mary our Mother, you became part of this earth, and you gazed upon this world with human eyes.
Today you are alive in every creature in your risen glory.
Praise be to you!
Holy Spirit, by your light you guide this world towards the Father’s love and accompany creation as it groans in travail.
You also dwell in our hearts and you inspire us to do what is good.
Praise be to you!
Triune Lord, wondrous community of infinite love, teach us to contemplate you in the beauty of the universe, for all things speak of you.
Awaken our praise and thankfulness for every being that you have made.
Give us the grace to feel profoundly joined to everything that is.
God of love, show us our place in this world as channels of your love for all the creatures of this earth, for not one of them is forgotten in your sight.
Enlighten those who possess power and money that they may avoid the sin of indifference, that they may love the common good, advance the weak, and care for this world in which we live.
The poor and the earth are crying out.
O Lord, seize us with your power and light, help us to protect all life, to prepare for a better future, for the coming of your Kingdom
of justice, peace, love and beauty.
Praise be to you!
Amen."
(Laudato Si, Pope Francis)

"I propose that we offer two prayers. The first we can share with all who believe in a God who is the all powerful Creator...:

A prayer for our earth:
All-powerful God, you are present in the whole universe and in the smallest of your creatures.
You embrace with your tenderness all that exists.
Pour out upon us the power of your love, that we may protect life and beauty.
Fill us with peace, that we may live as brothers and sisters, harming no one.
O God of the poor, help us to rescue the abandoned and forgotten of this earth, so precious in your eyes.
Bring healing to our lives, that we may protect the world and not prey on it, that we may sow beauty, not pollution and destruction.
Touch the hearts of those who look only for gain at the expense of the poor and the earth.
Teach us to discover the worth of each thing, to be filled with awe and contemplation, to recognize that we are profoundly united
with every creature as we journey towards your infinite light.
We thank you for being with us each day.
Encourage us, we pray, in our struggle for justice, love and peace." (Laudato Si, Pope Francis)

"God, who calls us to generous commitment and to give him our all, offers us the light and the strength needed to continue on our way. In the heart of this world, the Lord of life, who loves us so much, is always present. He does not abandon us, he does not leave us alone, for he has united himself definitively to our earth, and his love constantly impels us to find new ways forward. Praise be to him!" (Laudato Si, Pope Francis)
