Although the weather didn’t wholly cooperate this year with the cancellation of the Air Show on Monday due to poor weather conditions, the Long Island District members of the New York State Park Police helped ensure the safety and enjoyment of the America 250 festivities at Jones Beach over the past several days for the hundreds of thousands that gathered here.

The FourLeaf Federal Credit Union Air Show and Fourth of July Fireworks were a huge success and heavily attended. Not only did Long Island District members respond to numerous calls for service on the beachfront and boardwalk at Jones Beach, our members responded to several other incidents around Long Island and its roadways, including motor vehicle accidents. Whether on the sand, the water or the roads, our members are always prepared to keep the public safe!

The members of the Long Island District of the New York State Park Police will be out at Jones Beach State Park all weekend for the Four Leaf Air Show and Fourth of July Fireworks, all part of the America 250 celebrations taking place across the country!

If you’re joining us this weekend, please be aware of the extreme heat that we are experiencing, yes, even here down at the beach! Know your limits, stay hydrated and cool off as much as possible.

We want everyone to have a very safe and enjoyable weekend for those joining us for the 3 Air Show dates and 4th of July Fireworks; if you see any of our members in Black, say hello!!

Today on May 31, 2026, members of the New York State Park Police Long Island District along with numerous law enforcement, EMS, Fire and Emergency Management agencies participated in a joint large-scale emergency response training exercise at Field 5 in Jones Beach State Park.

The disaster scenario, a vehicle ramming attack on a crowd of beachgoers in the Field 5 parking lot, allowed law enforcement, EMS and Fire agencies to test their response, communication, coordination and interoperability in the most realistic disaster preparedness exercise ever hosted at Jones Beach State Park. Working together during the exercise in coordination with our partners in the New York State Police, Nassau County Police Department, Wantagh Fire Department, Nassau County, OEM - LI, Nassau County Police Medic Association, New York State Division of Homeland Security & Emergency Services, New York State Fire Protection Specialists, U.S. Coast Guard, NY State Parks & Historic Sites, LI State Parks Recreation and many other agencies, our responding members mitigated all threats to public safety, treated and evacuated victims, helped facilitate an orderly evacuation, and provided the public and the media with important messaging and announcements regarding the incident.

The members of the New York State Park Police Long Island District are highly trained and readily prepared for any threat, disaster or incident that may threaten public safety at Long Island State Parks. When you visit our state parks on Long Island you can take comfort in knowing that you are always being watched over by some of the best trained and highly skilled Police Officers anywhere in the state.

Weather had you down this Memorial Day Weekend??🌧️☔️

Things are going to clear up a bit later today, believe it or not! If you’re local, come down to Jones Beach State Park - for the first time ever, NY State Parks & Historic Sites will be hosting a drone light show . Come watch a thousand drones put on a dazzling display to help celebrate the upcoming 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States of America. The event and parking are FREE. The members of the Long Island State Park Police PBA will all be on hand to keep the event both fun and SAFE! Check back with us later for pictures from the event which you’ll only find here.

On May 14, 2026, Long Island State Park Police PBA members Sgt. Jones and PO Bugdin participated in the East End leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run. The LETR is the largest public awareness vehicle and grass roots fundraiser for the Special Olympics. Our PBA members ran several miles carrying the Special Olympics Torch and raised money for the NY Special Olympics. Thank you both for representing!!

On April 30, 2026, 33 new members of the New York State Park Police graduated from the 20th Session Basic School of the NYSPP Academy.

The Long Island District welcomes 3 new members from this Academy class, PO's Inman, Trabosh and Tavolacci, who begin their 10-week Field Training program to help them hone their skills and prepare for solo patrol here on Long Island.

Congratulations to the graduating class of the 20th Session Basic School! Stay safe, and welcome to the Park Police!!

On Thursday, April 16, 2025, a deceased Sei Whale, originally found in Newark Bay, was towed from where it had drifted in New York Harbor to the waters off of Field 6, Jones Beach State Park in order to perform a necropsy and bury the whale.

Working with our partners at the Office of NY State Parks & Historic Sites and the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, Park Police members of the Long Island District provided security on the beachfront for the safety of the scientists at the Atlantic Marine Conservation Society and the public.

To date, there is no updated information to indicate why the whale had died.

The Long Island State Park Police PBA is saddened to report the passing of retired New York State Park Police Sergeant Jack Sadousky. Jack passed away earlier this morning in his home state of Florida.

A U.S. Army veteran, and a 9/11 first responder, Sgt. Sadousky served in several regions around NYS with the Park Police, including Long Island, NYC and Saratoga. Jack is remembered for always having the backs of his brothers and sisters, and even in retirement, embodied the same camaraderie he had with his fellow Officers while still wearing the uniform.

Additionally, on 7/16/2004 Sgt. Sadousky famously responded to an energency call for assistance from Town of Babylon Bay Constable Richard Brooks. Constable Broojs had attempted to stop a DWI suspect on the Robert Moses Causeway when the suspect fled to his residence In Oak Beach. The suspect shot and killed Constable Brooks with a shotgun from tge 2nd stiry of his residence before repeatedly running his body over with his vehicle beforefleeing the scene. Sgt. Sadousky responded, along with several other Park Police Officers, and Jack shot and killed the suspect when he raised his shotgun up In an attempt to shoot the responding Officers. Sgt. Sadousky very well saved more lives that day and was credited numerous awards for his heroism.
