NDFB staff members Joey Bailey and Megan Overby visited the North Dakota 4-H Camp Livestock Camp at Washburn, N.D., yesterday. Joey, along with her daughter and niece, gave a demonstration on swine care and showmanship. It was hot, but a great day to help out!

NDFB President Val Wagner had an opportunity to attend Governor Kelly Armstrong's Legacy Soil Health and Habitat Program Roundtable, held at the Cass County Soil Conservation District Shop in Mapleton, Wednesday, May 27.

The discussion focused on improving soil health on marginal and unproductive crop ground while expanding opportunities for North Dakota agriculture. President Wagner applauded conservation initiatives that create opportunities — not competition — for farmers and ranchers, especially those just beginning their journey.

Others in attendance included USDA Under Secretary Richard Fordyce, North Dakota Game and Fish Commissioner Jeb Williams, Deputy Agriculture Commissioner Tom Bodine, North Dakota Association of Soil Conservation Districts Executive Director Rhonda Kelsch, Senator John Hoeven, and members of other stakeholder groups.

Thank you to Governor Armstrong for bringing leaders together to discuss policies and programs that will help build a strong future for rural North Dakota.

NDFB President Val Wagner represented NDFB members at U.S. Senator John Hoeven's Roundtable yesterday at NDSU, to discuss critical issues for North Dakota farmers and ranchers. Among the topics addressed with senior USDA officials, Acting Deputy Under Secretary for Food Safety Richard Fordyce and Farm Service Agency (FSA) Deputy Administrator for Farm Programs Jared Hagert, were data privacy, USDA program and FSA program administration, new and beginning farmer and rancher programs and opportunities, fertilizer production, and the many promising opportunities for agriculture in North Dakota in the years ahead.

What is that purple thing in the tree? It's not a pinata; these are emerald ash borer traps and we place them in cities, state parks, recreation areas, campgrounds, rest stops and other areas to survey for emerald ash borer. If you see one, please leave it undisturbed.
