EAST CANAAN - Peter Brown, 70 years old, of East Canaan passed away Sunday, May 17, 2026, in his home. He was the loving husband of Sandra Brown.

Pete was born on December 27, 1955, at Sharon Hospital to Abraham “Bucky” Brown and Rosalie Freund Brown. He graduated Housatonic Valley Regional High School and Northwestern Community College.

Pete worked at Lone Oak Campsites, the family business, since its inception in 1964. In 1993, he and his brother Barry bought the campground from Bucky. They ran it together until 2024. He loved doing the hayrides with the kids (known as the “Hi Pete Club”), his charity motorcycle rides, and chitchatting with the campers.

He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He shared a love of motorcycles with his son Cooper and music with his daughter Somer. With Sandra, his best friend, he shared everything.

He is survived by Sandra, Cooper, Somer, and daughter-in-law Melissa, as well as his two grandsons, Mason and Riley, his brother Barry, sister-in-law Jacolyn, and sister Lori.

Calling hours will be held at Kenny Funeral Homes, 41 Main Street, Sharon, Connecticut, on Saturday, May 23, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Guests welcome to come give condolences and share memories.

In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to Make A Wish Connecticut.

HVRHS Class of 1959 Mini-Reunion Celebration.

On Friday, May 15, 2026, members of the HVRHS Class of 1959 gathered at the State Line
Pizza in Canaan for another of their mini reunions. Marie Fife Hewins sends out a call twice a
year and classmates, spouses, and friends always enjoy the opportunity to get together to
share laughs and stories of earlier times.
Those attending were Mary Lucier Belter, Priscilla Edwards C***s, Paul Cortesi, Olive
Haskell Goddard, Eddie Golden, Pat Hall Graf, Marie Fife Hewins and husband, Ike, Gerry
Hines, Louise Bonhotel Miller and friend, Anne, Rosemary Russell Macchi, Steve Schneider
and wife, Eileen.
Olive Haskell Goddard, from Cape Cod, won the prize for coming the longest distance.
Regulars Alan Church, Richard Fulco and wife, Marge, and Mary Strattman Osborne had
graduations and other commitments.
All are looking forward to the next reunion lunch in the Fall and have promised to take and
share some pictures!

CLASS OF 1956 REUNION - SAVE THE DATE!

The Class of 1956 is having its 70th class reunion on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at the Canaan Country Club.

It will be an afternoon affair starting at 12:30pm with, weather permitting, outdoor seating on the porches. Participants will order from the menu.

Last spring The Lakeville Journal launched a journalism initiative at HVRHS. Through this program, students work with Lakeville Journal editors throughout the school year to report on what’s important and interesting to them and their community. The program is sponsored by the 21 st Century Fund and the

Dorothy M. Conklin, 85, of Great Barrington Class of '58

Dorothy M. Conklin, of Great Barrington, passed away on January 25, 2026. Born in North Canaan, Conn., on August 31, 1939, she was the daughter of Albert R. Conklin and Ethel Elizabeth Blackwell Conklin.

Dorothy was educated in Canaan schools and was a graduate of Housatonic Valley Regional High School, class of 1958.

Dorothy was an avid golfer and tennis player. She was a member of Wyantenuck Country Club for 52 years and proudly won 10 club championships. On August 3, 1995, she finally achieved a hole-in-one on the ninth hole!

Dorothy worked for Becton & Dickinson Company of Canaan, Conn., as a machine operator for 36 years, retiring in 1998.

Dorothy is survived by her brother Peter and cherished friends, the Dymek and Kays families.

A burial will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothy’s memory can be made to Fairview Hospital in care of Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home, 426 Main Street, Great Barrington, MA 01230.
