From Cornwall Bridge, CT the WNEG follows route 4 up to the junction with Route 125 on its way to the covered bridge at West Cornwall. However, if you have strong climbing legs or an e-bike, it is worth going up Popple Swamp rd, a very quiet back road, which rejoins WNEG after 3 miles, passing Nash Pond - which looked like this yesterday afternoon !

Where a cyclist heading north on WNEG (USBR 7) leaves Vermont for Quebec, they connect with route 2 of La Route Verte, the most unique and wonderful cycling network in the world, covering more than 5,000 kilometres of Quebec. This network is now thirty years old, and to mark the occasion, Jean François Pronovost, one of the principal architects of this project, has written the definitive account from a dream to realization : “La Route Verte - La plus belle conquête du velo !”, published in September 2025 !

June 7 - National Trails Day. We held a ceremony in honor of one of the members of the Housatonic Heritage Trails & Greenways Committee (WNEG) Johan Winsser. Not only was Johan a bike committee member, but he was an environmentalist, involved in trail and bridge building in the Preserves in Cornwall, CT, and most of all he was a community builder !
