Today is International Overdose Awareness Day. 💜

Today we remember the lives lost to overdose, support those affected, and recognize the importance of prevention, education, and access to lifesaving resources.

Naloxone saves lives. If you’d like to learn more about naloxone and how it can help in an overdose emergency, scan the QR code in the second image.

Did you know that most Region One students are already making healthy choices? 💙

The majority of our local youth choose not to use alcohol, ni****ne, or other drugs. While it's important to recognize these positive choices, parents and caregivers continue to play one of the biggest roles in helping young people make healthy decisions.

Research shows that when parents set clear expectations, have regular conversations about substance use, and stay involved in their child's life, youth are even more likely to make safe and healthy choices.

Not sure how to start the conversation? You're not alone! Free resources like SAMHSA's Talk. They Hear You.® campaign offer practical tips and conversation starters to help make discussions about alcohol, va**ng, and other substances feel more natural.

Remember-your conversations matter, and your child is listening.

Setting clear expectations, having open conversations, and safely storing substances at home can help prevent underage substance use.

NCPN offers free medication and cannabis lockboxes and is partnering with local liquor stores to distribute "Lock Your Liquor" stickers. These stickers can be used on liquor bottles, refrigerators, coolers, or other storage areas to help monitor access to alcohol—whether you're hosting a gathering or leaving home for the weekend.

Summer often means more freedom, more social events, and sometimes more opportunities for kids and teens to be faced with alcohol. Take the time to practice refusal skills and talk through different scenarios and help your child come up with responses they feel comfortable using. Remind them that they can always use you as an excuse to get out of a situation, and make sure they know your family's expectations. When it comes to underage drinking, the answer is always no.
