Forever Paws Animal Shelter gives animals a renewed leash on life by assisting them while homeless, in danger, or generally in need. We work in collaboration with our Law Enforcement Agencies, members of the public, and other organizations to improve the lives of animals. Our mission is to re-home animals in an ethically positive way that is beneficial to the overall well-being of the animal and our community. Forever Paws works to give animals the gift of time through managed intake. This allows us to offer comprehensive treatment and care to stray, abused, or abandoned animals. Forever Paws continues to operate under no-kill practices, offering care for all treatable conditions with no restrictions on length of stay. We will always place the quality of life of an animal as our most paramount charge. Forever Paws is devoted to educating future generations to foster compassionate and humane attitudes towards all species of animal.

Meet Walter White!

Are you looking for a quiet snuggle buddy to ward off the winter chill that is steadily creeping up on us whether we like it or not?

This guy. This guy right here.

Walter is a senior guy at about twelve years old. He's actually in pretty good health for an old man. He is going for a dental/some teeth extractions which will most likely leave him a gummy bear with NO teeth so he'll need to be on a diet of wet food/softened dry food only but his heart sounds good and he's still a sturdy boy at about 11lbs!

This cat gets a gold star for, like, everything. He came to us very matted and was super patient about being brushed out and shaved. He grumbled and complained a little but never once tried to swat or bite...he mostly just rolled around, purred, and enjoyed the attention.

He also drools when he's really happy. It's amazing. Like, genuinely one of the best things in the world.

Walter did come to us with other cats and lived most of his life with them so he would most likely do well with other senior cats or just cats that are lower energy and like to chill. We haven't tested him with dogs yet but we imagine he would be much the same - fine with older, slower, calmer dogs.

Trust us when we say that Walter White is an absolutely flawless cat. We love him. You'll love him too.

We are trying so, so hard to give Lovebug a chance at the life she deserves...and Lovebug is trying so, so hard to fight for that chance.

As many of you know, and as French bulldog owners can attest to, Murphy's Law seems to pay particular attention to this breed. If it CAN go wrong, it WILL go wrong.

Lovebug went for her airway surgery last week. The surgery on her nares and her palate went well. It was recommended that we spay her at the same time to avoid having to place her under anesthesia a second time, which makes perfect sense, so we agreed.

Unfortunately, complications have occurred as a result of her spay. Her incision has ruptured internally and her bowel is now protruding through that opening and is pushing on her other organs as well as putting her at risk for sepsis. The emergency vet has assured us that this is not a result of the surgery being done incorrectly, but just an unfortunate stroke of exceedingly bad luck - as we said, if it CAN go wrong with Frenchies, it WILL go wrong.

We are looking at an estimate of $8000 for surgery and hospitalization to save this sweet, loving, resilient girl.

We know that we've already asked for your help with her. We know that many of you have already done what you can. We are heartbroken and so worried but we're in this field to give animals like her a fighting chance and, as long as Lovebug continues to want to thrive and love and enjoy her life, we're going to do everything we can to give her that fighting chance...even if that means rallying the troops (our community) once again.

Meet Maxine!

Who doesn't love a scruffy collection of sentient pocket lint?

Maxine is a creature. That's about all we know. Some sort of terrier mix but the specifics are one of the world's greatest mysteries. She's about five years old and weighs just under 10lbs so she's a little lady but she's got a BIG personality! Physically, she may be tiny but her presence? Her presence is larger than life.

Honestly, this is probably one of the friendliest, nicest small dogs that we've had in a long time. "Social butterfly" doesn't quite capture just how people-oriented this girl is. She wants to know what you're doing, where you're going, and how she can be involved at all times. She'll be your shadow and your little helper...even if that help is just moral support.

Maxine does NOT like other dogs. Not even a little bit. She wants no part of them, doesn't want them breathing in her general vicinity, doesn't even want to acknowledge that there are other dogs besides her in the world. On the flip side, she's GREAT with cats! She loves them! She may be a little overbearing for a shy or skittish cat. We would prefer kids 10+ because, like a typical terrier, she can be a little mouthy when her feet are messed with.

She's not terrible on a leash but she's not fantastic either. She isn't super pully but she does tend to try and hogtie your legs with her leash and run in circles so may not be the best option for someone who isn't steady on their feet.

This boy is never, ever going to know anything but love for the rest of his days. This family is going to spoil him the way he's always deserved.

From a terrified puppy being abused in a stairwell to a happy little man living his life taking naps in front of a fireplace, this is why rescue matters.
