The Fall River Police Department is proud to announce the addition of our newest K9 team member, K9 Marta, a 13-month-old German Shorthaired Pointer who recently completed extensive narcotics detection training alongside her handler.
K9 Marta and her handler successfully completed the Narcotic Detection Academy conducted by the Plymouth County Sheriff's Department K9 Unit. The academy consisted of approximately 400 hours of specialized instruction focused on the detection of narcotic odors, including powder co***ne, crack co***ne, he**in, fentanyl, and methamphetamine.
We would like to recognize and thank Massachusetts Vest-A-Dog for its generous support in helping acquire K9 Marta. Through a monetary grant, Massachusetts Vest-A-Dog covered 80 percent of the purchase cost of the narcotics detection dog. The Fall River Police Department contributed the remaining balance. This partnership made it possible to add K9 Marta to our Department's K9 Unit and further strengthen our narcotics detection capabilities.
Additionally, the department extends its gratitude to Shallow Creek Kennels of Pennsylvania, which imported Marta from Hungary in February 2026. Marta was selected and picked up from Shallow Creek Kennels in March, at which time training immediately commenced in preparation for her law enforcement career.
We look forward to the positive impact Marta and her handler will make as they begin serving the citizens of Fall River.
