The 127th Ohio State Society, NSDAR Conference, held March 19–22, 2026, was full of wonderful moments for our chapter! Our Regent, Debi Ison Hicks, was recognized with a certificate for completing Leadership Training, and our Treasurer, Janet Walker, received a “She Still Serves” certificate honoring her military service. It was a fantastic weekend of learning, celebration, and fellowship. We had a great time and are already looking forward to next year’s conference!

Several members of our chapter were delighted to attend the 127th Ohio State Conference held March 19–22, 2026. A special highlight was watching our Regent, Deb Hicks—who also serves as the State Chair for the Good Citizen Award—present this year’s award to the Ohio State winner. He will now advance to compete at the national level, and we all wish him the best of luck!

We are thrilled to share that our very own Janet Walker earned 2nd place at the state level for her entry in the American Heritage Committee’s Fiber Arts – Hand Quilted Quilts category at the 127th Ohio State Society, NSDAR Conference, held March 19–22, 2026! This year’s theme, “Road to Independence – Acts of Rebellion and Treason,” was the perfect backdrop for Janet’s stunning quilt honoring the legacy of the Daughters of Liberty, the courageous women who championed American independence long before the DAR was founded.

Her quilt, “Daughters of Liberty Spinning Bee,” beautifully tells their story through thoughtful symbolism: thirteen stars for the original colonies, twelve-inch Double Spinwheel blocks, charming bumble bee blocks, and hand embroidered details—including the quilt’s title and delicate flying bees. Janet’s artistry and historical storytelling shine through every stitch, and we are so proud of her accomplishment.

The Rebecca Galloway Chapter is incredibly proud to celebrate Ms. Jacqueline Melcher, our nominee and recipient of the DAR Medal of Honor, awarded to native-born American citizens who have demonstrated extraordinary qualities of leadership, trustworthiness, service, and patriotism. Jacqueline received this well‑deserved honor at the 127th Ohio State Society, NSDAR Conference on March 22, 2026, where her family also presented her with a beautiful quilt from the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. Her remarkable leadership has strengthened partnerships between the Department of the Air Force and Tribal communities, and her advocacy has led to meaningful policy changes supporting Indigenous service members. From championing cultural and religious accommodations to guiding DoD‑wide collaboration efforts, Jacqueline’s impact is felt far and wide. We are deeply grateful for her dedication, patriotism, and service to both her country and her Indigenous heritage—qualities she demonstrates daily as the Installation Management Division Chief at WPAFB. Congratulations, Jacqueline, on this extraordinary and well‑earned honor!
