Monroe Institute The Monroe Institute is a global nonprofit organization dedicated to the study and experience of expanded consciousness.

The Monroe Institute provides experiential programs for the personal exploration of human consciousness. Over the last 50 years, tens of thousands of people have attended the Institute’s residential programs at the Virginia campus and outreach programs around the world. Millions of people have benefited from Monroe's educational materials. The Institute admits students of any race, color, creed, a

nd national or ethnic origin. The Monroe Institute also serves as the core research facility investigating the evolution of human consciousness and making related information available to the public. The Monroe Institute is devoted to the premise that focused consciousness contains solutions to the major issues of the human experience. A greater understanding of such consciousness can be achieved through coordinated research efforts using an interdisciplinary approach. Monroe is working in collaboration with researchers and clinicians in many areas, including university and clinical collaborations and our Professional membership and Board of Advisors.

A common misconception is that Monroe worked directly with the CIA, but this isn’t accurate. The Stargate Project was the classified DIA program exploring remote viewing. It was not related to The Monroe Institute. The famous “CIA Gateway Report” was written by U.S. Army officer Wayne McDonnell after attending Monroe programs. His analysis reflected his own interpretation, not a CIA or DIA collaboration with Monroe. They simply wanted to check out Bob’s wonderful work and see it for themselves. This is a public report that can be found online.

Our Professional Division has welcomed researchers and leaders from many fields, who attend Monroe programs as individuals seeking personal and professional growth. Our goal is to empower people to explore expanded states of awareness and unlock their highest potential.

Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, participants stay on campus while engaging in guided exercises, meditation, and Monroe Sound Science® technology in a supportive community environment.
