Mysteries set in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Historical romance inspired by family ancestry.
Poetry shaped by decades of teaching and life experience.
Stories exploring reincarnation, consciousness, and near-death experiences.

This is not your average author event.

Meet Your Local Authors brings together a fascinating mix of regional writers for an afternoon of conversation, storytelling, and community connection at RVCC.

The evening begins with a moderated panel discussion led by author Jean Pugh Shipman, followed by a reception where guests can meet the writers, ask questions, and have books signed.

Whether you’re an avid reader, aspiring writer, or simply someone who enjoys hearing how creative work comes to life, this event promises a thoughtful and engaging afternoon.

We need a few extra hands this Saturday morning!

Our Pancake Breakfast is almost here, and right now we are very short on volunteers to help make this community tradition happen.

If you’ve ever enjoyed a morning at RVCC, attended an event, visited the gallery, walked the trails, or simply believe in having a welcoming community space, this is a great way to jump in and help.

We need volunteers to assist with:
• Serving breakfast
• Helping in the kitchen
• Welcoming guests
• Setup and cleanup

No special skills required. Just bring yourself, a willingness to help, and maybe your love of pancakes.

Even an hour or two makes a huge difference.

Our volunteers are what keep Rockfish Valley Community Center going, and we would be incredibly grateful for your support.

There’s thrift shopping…
…and then there’s Treasure Chest shopping.

The kind where:
• Someone finds the exact dish set their grandmother had
• A jacket gets a second life instead of ending up in a landfill
• Neighbors stop to catch up in the aisles
• Every purchase helps support the community center itself

The Treasure Chest has supported RVCC since 2001 and continues to help fund programs, events, and community spaces right here in Nelson County.

A few things to know:
🛒 RVCC members receive 10% off
🧺 Fill-a-basket wearable sale every day for $10
🎉 50% off everything every First Saturday
❤️ Volunteers receive additional discounts

And yes, the inventory changes constantly, so if you saw something last week… there is absolutely no guarantee it survived.

“Spend 10 minutes eating and 2 hours talking.”

Honestly, that might be the most accurate description of the RVCC Pancake Breakfast.

Every first Saturday of the month, the community gathers for stacks of pancakes, hot coffee, and the kind of conversations that somehow only happen around folding tables and syrup bottles.

It’s simple.
It’s welcoming.
And it’s become one of those small local traditions people genuinely look forward to.

We could use a few more volunteers to help make breakfast mornings happen.

Please join us in welcoming River Oak Farm to our Wednesday Farm Pickup & Local Vendor Program at Rockfish Valley Community Center!

Luke and Megan have recently moved onto the farm and are now running River Oak Farm full-time, continuing its commitment to grass-based, diversified livestock farming that works with the land rather than against it.

If you've been part of the local farming community for a while, you may already know Luke, who joined River Oak Farm in 2020. Together, Luke and Megan are carrying forward the farm's mission while building an exciting future for the operation.

Currently, River Oak Farm offers pastured poultry and farm-fresh eggs, with more products planned in the months ahead.

We're excited to have them as part of our Wednesday program and look forward to helping connect them with our community.

There’s something refreshing about hearing directly from writers instead of just reading the polished version on the back cover.

The doubts.
The weird ideas that became books.
The years spent researching.
The moments where they almost gave up entirely.

That’s what Meet Your Local Authors is about.

Join us Saturday, June 6 for an afternoon conversation with regional authors sharing the journeys behind their books, their writing process, and the experiences that shaped their work.

After the discussion, guests can meet the authors, purchase books, and enjoy signings during the reception.

• Susan Burke
• Patrick Kelly
• Brent Kitching
• Marta Anne Tice
• Moderator Jean Pugh Shipman

There’s a reason people linger inside small art galleries.

Maybe it’s the slower pace.
Maybe it’s the handmade work.
Maybe it’s the conversations that happen when nobody’s rushing.

Rockfish Gallery & Gifts has become one of those places.

A space filled with local artwork, thoughtful gifts, familiar faces, and volunteers who help make the gallery feel welcoming and alive.

We’re currently looking for additional volunteers to help staff the gallery during open hours:
Wednesday–Saturday | 11 AM–4 PM

Whether you can help occasionally or more regularly, every bit of support helps keep this creative community space going strong.

If you’ve been looking for a meaningful way to stay connected locally, we’d love to have you join us.

Stop by the gallery to learn more.
