CASA speaks for children in court because all children have a right to live in a safe, healthy and secure environment.

A CASA advocate is the eyes and ears of the judge in the world and the voice for the child in the courtroom. If you are someone who cares, you could become a consistent support for a child in their time of crisis. Advocates work for the best interest of children who enter the court system primarily as a result of abuse and neglect. Advocates interview parents, teachers, social workers, and anyone else who might have insight into the needs, challenges and strengths of the child. Volunteers form a team with their case supervisor and supplement the role of other professionals involved in the case.Advocates have the unique ability to focus on the needs of one child at a time. Advocates visit with their CASA child on a regular basis and develop a relationship with the child. As officers of the court, volunteers provide the judge with written reports that directly impact the decisions made regarding the child's life. Most of all, they are a friend to the child. Advocates come from all walks of life, with a variety of professional, educational and ethnic backgrounds. Volunteers are selected on the basis of their objectivity, competence and commitment. No special experience is required; CASA provides all of the necessary training. Many volunteers find their time as an advocate helps them gain experience, which serves them in other aspects of their lives.

Our hearts are full of gratitude for Trinidad Civic Club, this year's CASA Kids Season Best Community Team!

Together, they raised nearly $3,800, but what makes their contribution so special goes far beyond the dollars. They showed up, reached out to their neighbors and local businesses, and worked tirelessly to bring awareness and support to CASA of Humboldt.

To the entire Trinidad Civic Club team: thank you for believing in our mission and giving so generously of yourselves. We are fortunate to have such wonderful community partners standing alongside us and the children we serve.

Some people truly go above and beyond, and Thea Stewart, also known as team "Candy Girl," is one of them!

We couldn't be more excited to recognize Thea as our CASA Kids Season Individual Team Winner, raising over $4,000 all on her own!

But Thea's support doesn't end when CASA Kids Season wraps up. From June through October, rain or shine, she's a familiar face at the Henderson Center Farmers' Market, where she sells her treats and blankets to benefit CASA of Humboldt.

Over the years, Thea's tireless efforts have brought in nearly $60,000 for CASA of Humboldt! She is a truly extraordinary example of one person's ability to make a difference.

Thea, we are endlessly grateful for your generous heart and the countless hours you devote to helping local children. Our community is a better place because of people like you. Congratulations, Candy Girl!

When you’re really struggling, having one trusted person to turn to can make all the difference. For many kids and teens in foster care, that person is their CASA volunteer.

This World Mental Health Day, we're shining a light on the many ways CASA volunteers meaningfully support the mental health of the children they serve. They do this each day by:

Advocating for mental health services
Practicing trauma-informed care
Modeling a healthy relationship
Being a positive adult in their life
And so much more!

Our CASA Kids have been growing something special at the CASA House!

What started as a fun planting activity at a CASA Kids party has turned into a thriving little vegetable garden! Our CASA Kids have loved watching their plants grow and have taken their gardening duties seriously, making sure their vegetables get plenty of water, care, and attention.

And the fun doesn't stop in the garden! These homegrown vegetables are being put to good use in a series of cooking classes led by former CASA Case Supervisor Bella Garrett. During each class, the kids get hands-on experience preparing a meal, learning new kitchen skills, and discovering the joy of cooking with ingredients they've helped grow. At the end of the series, each child gets to take home a cookbook filled with recipes they can recreate and enjoy!

A big thank you to Case Supervisors Katie, Maddi, and Zayah for hosting our CASA Kids party and to Board Member Mary Bain for donating the vegetable starts and helping us bring this fun project to life. We're loving watching both our garden and our young gardeners flourish!

What is a DAF?

A DAF is a charitable giving account that allows you to set aside funds for nonprofits you care about. This DAF Day, consider supporting CASA of Humboldt to ensure that children and youth in foster care have an advocate by their side.

On October 8, donors across the country are coming together to put their Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs) to work and support the causes they care about.

Thank you to Joe's Green Barn and all of the businesses who welcomed Team Trinidad Civic Club and helped raise awareness for CASA of Humboldt. Every sign displayed, conversation shared, and show of support helped CASA Kids Season reach even more people in our community.

We want to give one last big shout out to the Trinidad Civic Club for the incredible effort they put in from beginning to end. Thank you for showing up, getting creative, connecting with local businesses, and helping share CASA’s mission. We couldn’t have asked for a more enthusiastic group to help make CASA Kids Season shine!

While CASA Kids Season 2026 has come to a close, there are lots of exciting things to come. Stay tuned for details about the Hope Blooms Here Gala on March 6, 2027!
