Changing Tides Family Services

Changing Tides Family Services Proudly celebrating 50 years of connecting community to the resources they need to thrive.

Changing Tides Family Services is a nonprofit committed to connecting families of all kinds to the resources and services they need to thrive. Serving all of Humboldt, we are a dynamic family resource agency offering an array of programs and services that support families, individuals, child care providers and the community. Established in 1975, our organization began with its roots in workforce d

evelopment, creating and supporting child care opportunities for working families. Fifty years later, we’ve expanded to a staff of over 150, offering a wide range of child care, behavioral health, disability, and community services. Each of our programs is guided by our commitment to empowering families and individuals in our community in ways that create a positive ripple effect throughout Humboldt County. At Changing Tides, we’re committed to…

- Making child care more accessible and affordable for all Humboldt families and supporting the vital role of child care providers in our community through professional development and technical assistance.

- Supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their caregivers with the holistic support they need to thrive in Humboldt. Providing trauma-informed care and behavioral support to children and youth and their caregivers.

- Empowering the community and families of all kinds through a variety of resources, activities, and services. At Changing Tides Family Services, we are dedicated to fostering connections and providing tailored support to our community. When all individuals and families have the resources they need to thrive, we can build a stronger, more resilient Humboldt County.

Disability Belongs™ is deeply concerned by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) Interim Final Rule implementing new Medicaid work and community engagement requirements for certain adults.

While the rule includes exclusions and exceptions for some disabled people, medically frail people, family caregivers, and others, the existence of an exclusion does not guarantee that eligible people will be protected in practice.

In the coming days, we will provide the disability community with plain-language advocacy tools to help advocates understand what the rule does, why it matters, how it may affect disabled people and family caregivers, and how to make their voices heard during the comment period.

We will continue working to ensure that Medicaid remains a strong foundation for independence, community living, and full participation.
