To date, we have 137 alumni from 62 tribal nations.

The Sapsik‘ʷałá (Teacher) Education Program at the University of Oregon College of Education started in 2002 to address the need for more American Indian and Alaska Native teachers.

Shix páchway Relatives! Fall Term is here, and our Sapsik’ʷałá Cohort had an immersive Summer Seminar rooted in place-based land pedagogies with PSU ITECK, a visit to the new CTSI Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians - Eugene Area Office, attended the CTGR Education Summit, created "Living Your Heritage" collages, visited Autzen Stadium, took a trip out to the Amanda DeCuys statue at the coast, and more. Kw’ałánúushamatash, thank you to those who've supported our Sapsik’ʷałá Scholars over the summer months. Looking forward to Fall Term!

Orientation and first seminar for the 2026-2027 cohort✅

Our Graduate Employee, Cally, guided students on a native PNW campus tree tour using our Plant Teachings for Growing Social-Emotional Skills textbook.

We followed the Indigenous UO Map: https://map.uoregon.edu/indigenous to see the Indigenous history and culturally significant locations on campus, such as the Many Nations Longhouse and Indigenous art installations such Steph Littlebird's This is Kalapuyan Land mural in front of the JSMA.

Some of us ended our day at Autzen Stadium for a private tour of the athletic facilities! We are so excited what this year will bring for our newest cohort of students.

Native Youth Wellness Program (Lane ESD) is offering our first ever, no-cost statewide Tribal History/Shared History 101 Webinar, Sunday May 3rd from 10am-3pm. Please see the flyer for more info and please share widely with your networks!

This webinar is oriented to K-12 administrators, classified and certified staff and will cap at 200 registrants. There will be raffles throughout the day and resources available to share with participants.

Last Thursday, the Center for Multicultural Academic Excellence (CMAE) hosted its 12th annual Proudly Recognizing Indigenous Devotion to Education (PRIDE) Awards and 5 of our Sapsik’ʷałá students and staff received awards! We are so proud of you and your representation of Indigenous excellence!

Last Friday Sapsik’ʷałá hosted the 3rd annual Indigenous Education Celebration and Sapsik’ʷałá Open House! We were able to be together in community and celebrate our students who are working so hard this term!
