Pacific Wolves

Pacific Wolves Wolves are making their first steps back into the Pacific states of Washington, Oregon, and California.

We believe in a thriving future where wolves and people can coexist and do not allow hateful or violent comments toward anyone, human or wolf. The Pacific Wolf Coalition embodies 25+ member organizations throughout the Pacific West states of CA, OR and WA. There are times when individual organizations' strategies and approaches differ from each other, but our ultimate goal of working together to m

ove wolf recovery forward is the same. It is our aim to provide balanced and informative perspectives that reflect the Coalition's diversity.

❗Calling all California residents❗

You can now share your input on California's wolf-livestock compensation program!

📍 ALL California residents
🕑 Takes approximately 20 minutes
📅 Deadline: June 11th

This program provides resources, funding, and assistance for ranchers to support the proactive use of non-lethal deterrents in areas where humans and wolves coexist. Prioritizing funding for this proven way to support the lives of both wolves and people can help build a better future for wolf country in California.

While the compensation/nonlethals program will be used by livestock operators, the program is funded by taxpayer dollars, and ALL Californians have a stake in how wolves are prioritized and supported in the program's operations.

You can also write to CDFW at [email protected] AT ANY TIME to let them know your perspectives on California's wolf-livestock compensation program!

This and every day, we're fighting to protect the endangered species, the gray wolf. 💪

Wolves were nearly eradicated from the lower 48 by colonial settlers. We're grateful to experience the beauty and power of wolves in the modern day, thanks to the continued efforts of experts to conserve, reintroduce, and protect them. 🐾

As wolves naturally return to the Pacific West, they continue to face persecution and human violence. Despite this, they persist, returning slowly but surely to their historic range. ❤

To all the organizations, scientists, environmentalists, and wolf-lovers out there working to protect wolves, thank you. 🐺

This , we’re thinking of the fierce wolf moms defying all odds to raise their pups 💖

Despite threats from humans, so many wolf moms keep their wolves strong and healthy each year, raising the next generation of wolves across their historic range. 🐺

Right now, many wolf moms across the Pacific West are just giving birth to the litter they’ve held for a little over two months, and can expect to birth an average of 4-6 pups at a time. Then she’s in full-time mom-mode, staying in the den for the first few weeks to take care of her new pups while the rest of the pack supports her.

Whether you’re a wolf mom or a wolf-loving mom, Happy Mothers Day to you today! 💘

We are so excited to see continued recovery for naturally migrated wolf populations in California ❤

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife released its quarterly update this week, confirming 12 established packs and an estimated 90 wolves throughout the state. 🐾

🐺🐺 In California, a pack is defined as two or more wolves detected in a specific area within six months, or with recorded evidence of breeding.

Most of these packs are in Northern California, with the Yowlumni Pack in the south, still ruling over a territory in the Sequoia National Forest!

BEY03F, "Bae," continues to make history in her trek across California!

In her quest for a new home and a mate, she passed through L.A. county in February, making history as the first wolf to do so in over a century.

Not long after, she pushed deeper into the Sierra Nevadas, and she's been in at least 12 counties and has possibly covered more than 1,000 miles in her lifetime, a major feat!

She was most recently spotted in Owens Valley and will likely continue her quest to find a permanent partner and pack to call home.

Wolves are integral to ecosystem functions that create wetlands and wet meadows. In turn, these habitats help mitigate climate change by storing large amounts of atmospheric carbon. 🌊

Wolves play their part by altering the use of aspen, cottonwood, and riparian woody vegetation by elk and deer. 🌳 In response, these plants grow in size and abundance.

Beavers now have food and material available for building, maintaining, and expanding their dam complexes, which support wetland ecosystems.

These changes, initiated by wolves' presence in the ecosystem, decrease the sensitivity of vegetation and stream flows to short-term variation in weather and longer-term climate trends.🐺
