Our goal is to create a new ATV trail system that will connect five communities (Ely, Babbitt, Embarrass, Soudan and Tower, MN), two state parks (Bear Head Lake State Park and Lake Vermilion State Park) and Lake County Regional ATV Trail. The Prospectors Trail Alliance considers the availability of destination travel routes throughout the northland, a key consideration in providing public access t

hrough ATV use to many desired locations. Connecting communities with such features as Soudan Underground Mine State Park, Lake Vermilion State Park, Bear Head Lake State Park and a variety of other features within the Superior National Forest is a key component to enabling the use and access of these wonderful attributes that Minnesota has to offer.

Contractor will be working on the trail from South Farm to the Spruce Road. The majority of the work will be by the Kawishiwi Bridge, but there will also be dump trucks; expect delays.

The DNR is out today on The Taconite trail spraying a herbicide to kill off invasive weeds and brush. Due to the heavy smoke and mid week there would likely be less riders and because there is essentially no wind, today was selected as the best day for this activity. FYI

We have a detour plan ready for this project, working with land managers. Our signage crew will have their hands full as we strive to meet the high standards Prospector is known for. This is similar to what happened when the new DNR campground opened near Tower. Our volunteers built boardwalks followed by the signage improvements. The challenges are being met, thanks to our volunteers!

NOTICE
Lake County Highway Department will be closing New Tomahawk Road (County Road 34) to through traffic between MN Hwy 1 and Babbit.

When Beginning: Tuesday, July 7, 7:00 AM
Ending: September 19, (anticipated)

Why The bridge over Stony River will be rehabilitated, including a new bridge deck and railing and repairs to substructure units.

Residential Access: The bridge will be out, no traffic can cross for the duration of the project. A detour will be posted on MN Hwy 1 and St. Louis County Roads 20 and 121. The road will be open to residents and local traffic on either side of the bridge.
